The transmission begins slipping & eventually has to be replaced, typically soon after 100,000 miles & with a repair cost of over $2,000.
Subframe rust near the front passenger side wheel has become a problem recently, due to the poorly positioned A/C drain hose directly above that area. Repair cost to the subframe is over $2,000.
Engine stalling while driving in the 1999 Accord is typically caused by a defective ignition switch -- inexpensive to repair (under $200) but dangerous.
Peeling paint has also been an issue for these Accords. Most of the complaints are with darker paint colors -- especially green & blue.

When braking vehicle trembled and stalled while coming to a complete stop. Vehicle restarted after stalling. Vehicle was taken to the dealer, who did a diagnostic test and found no problems.
There were problems with the thermostat, brakes, engine light was intermittent, overheating, squealing while driving, the windshield molding at the upper left corner of the window, thumping noise while driving, maintenance light was inoperative, steering wheel vibrated, the ABS light was intermittent, and the tires were replaced early. The consumer applied the brakes then heard a grinding noise. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic who informed the consumer that the front brakes had broken and that the calipers were very bad. The dealer was contacted and informed the consumer that they would only check for a problem at cost. Would not repair.
