CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2000 Honda Accord suffers from widespread transmission failure, subframe rust, & problems with the airbag system (SRS). We recommend avoiding this model year like the plague.

The transmission begins slipping & eventually has to be replaced, typically soon after 90,000 miles & with a repair cost of over $2,000.

Subframe rust near the front passenger side wheel has become a problem recently, due to the poorly positioned A/C drain hose directly above that area. Repair cost to the subframe is over $2,000.

The SRS warning light likes to come on due to a defective seat belt sensor -- typically the driver's side. This sensor is covered under Honda's lifetime seat belt warranty, but some dealers charge a $100+ "diagnostic fee" or tell customers the entire SRS unit ($800) is bad.

My car passenger side subframe is rusted out. I just replaced tires and now the car is unable to drive due to safety concern. I found out this when my car was vibrate a lot during on the road. When I come home, I jacked up the car and inspected the wheel and front chassis. I saw the rust is very bad, it can be seen in the pictures I submit below. The subframe basically separated, it will cause another thousand of dollars to replace the frame. Mechanics toll me that the subframe should not be rust like that. It is the basic integrity of the car safety for any car, it should last a life time of the car as long as you own it. I am hope that Honda should recall this rust issue. It is hard enough to owned an old car and try to keep it on the road.

I have a 2000 Honda Accord. It runs fine but, the other nite it locked me in. On the driver's side and I could not get out, I am disabled with a back injury. And this is not acceptable. If I were in a wreck it could have been worse. But, then 2 days later the car locked me in on both sides. I could not get out. My boyfriend finally got me out on the passenger side, but its been 3 days now and they can still not get my car undone on the driver's side. They have taken door panel apart and everything, still can't get it to open.( it was stationary when trying to unlock it)

The "SRS" light is on in the dashboard. It has been determined that the passenger seat belt latch is faulty. It is dangerous to ride a passenger in this vehicle for fear that the seat belt would not work properly if the vehicle was in an accident or just hit by another driver. Please advise on the repair procedures. The pixels on the mileage and miles driven is not working properly. The mileage and miles drives numbers cannot be read.

Clicking noise was coming from front suspension area. Car was inspected by a local mechanic and stated that there was a water leak from the air conditioner condenser onto the passenger side of the front subframe. As a result, the subframe fractured on the passenger side. The mechanic stated that the subframe was rusted and fractured. The front subframe needed to be replaced. Mechanic stated that the car was unsafe to drive as it could have resulted in severe injuries/death. Contacted american Honda on 7-15-15 to get a goodwill repair since this is a common issue with other owners as a result of manufacture defect. Amal, the representative in the product concerns department stated that it is Honda's policy not to issue goodwill since the car is out of warranty and is 15 years old. Honda - not everyone can afford brand new cars!!! your reputation has been to produce safe, dependable vehicles, but your lack of actual "customer support" shows otherwise. I was shocked to see that in 2012 this issue was brought to the public's attention including the safety regulators, www.newsnet5.com/news/local-news/investigations/center-for-auto-safety-requesting-recall-of-1-5-million-Honda-Accord-for-rust-issue-in-sub-frame. I urge NHTSA to do the right thing and represent us consumers by having Honda issue a recall for this defect. Please do something asap before people get hurt and we have another fiasco, I.e., GM ignition, takata airbags.

To whom it may concern, through this letter, I wish to inform you of my disagreement with the evaluation of the air bags in my 2000 Honda Accord. I was involved in an accident and the air bags did not deploy to protect me. When I addressed my concern to the dalton Agency, I was informed that the service manager, manuel pez navarro and the head of mechanics, jorge cardenas only do oil change and filters. They advised if I wanted to know why the air bags did not function correctly, that I should pay a technician $600 pesos to connect a scanner to my car to see if there is an error in the system, an error that may have been there from the beginning when the car was assembled. Please understand that the factory invoice for my auto specifies that it has air bags at the highest security level. That is why I"ve taken my car to be service regularly at the dalton Agency to keep all warranties in place. I placed my trust in the Agency, in the Honda company and in the global brand and feel that I have been misled about service and quality. I am totally disappointed by the lack of concern from individual lives. The trauma, injury and rehabilitation after the accident has been terrible, least having to deal with you has caused unnecessary frustration and fear. Knowing that the air bag situation has been called a simple mistake or accident does not help my dilemma. Luckily I am alive today, but a few centimeters could have made a big difference and caused a tragic story. What has happened to me could have happen to anyone else, especially someone having a hard time in life. Please consider taking responsibility and do the ?right thing?. I?M attaching pictures and copies of all documents for your review and providing the following information: License plate #: 124-ppu service history: 2001 " present service Agency: Honda dalton polanco de mxico, D.F.
