My 2001 Honda Accord has 92,780 miles and really hasn't given me many problems to speak of. But now, it starts OK and idles OK, but when applying acceleration it spits, coughs, and sputters. It tries to die but will within 30 seconds usually get going. But I just noticed it is smoking. At first I thought I would just replace the fuel filter. But I have found there is no in-line filter. There is an assembly and screen inside the fuel tank but I'm concerned now about the smoking. I'm hoping this is just because of incorrect fuel/air mixture. I'm scared to death to take it to the blood suckers at the dealership. Can anyone help?
