CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2005 Honda Accord suffers from transmission failure. It's not a huge widesperad problem like in prior years, but definitely still something to consider.

The transmission begins slipping & eventually has to be replaced, typically soon after 90,000 miles & with a repair cost of over $2,000.

Transmission failure problems have been a huge problem for the Accord & several other Honda models all through the early 2000s model years. Honda eventually extended the transmission warranty to 93 months/109k miles for the 2000-2001 Accords as a class action lawsuit settlement, but owners of other Accord model years with transmission problems are out of luck.

The contact owns a 2005 Honda Accord. The contact stated that when the driver exited the parked vehicle, it locked itself independently. The vehicle was unlocked at the service of a locksmith however, the front driver's side door did not unlock. The contact called the fisher Honda Acura dealer (303-245-6416, located at 6025 arapahoe rd, boulder, co 80303) and was advised to tow the vehicle to the auto center. The vehicle was instead taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the only remedy was to break the front driver's door panel. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 135,000.

Door will not unlock on front passenger side. This is not a child safety lock issue. Seems like a common problem after a review of the internet. In a crash or fire passenger would have to crawl to the other side of the car or through a window to get out. Responders would have no way to open the door from the outside.

Door lock remote fails to open locks. If I'm inside the car, sometimes the driver's door lock will be jammed down, and key will not open from outside. Nothing worked, I had to crawl over the console and exit by the passenger door. Definitely a safety issue, since it could happen in an emergency.

The inside door handle of my Honda Accord coupe 2005 stopped working all of a sudden. A passenger riding with me discovered that they could not exit the car because the inside door handle failed to open the door. This was a one time occurrence and the door handle never worked again after that point. The problem was the cable from the interior door handle to the exterior door handle has a defective plastic insert where it attaches to the door panel. Failure of this piece results in the passengers of the vehicle not being able to open the door from the inside. This creates a potential safety hazard in the event of an accident or roll-over. The cable holding the plastic insert had to be ordered and replaced after taking off the door panel.

The contact owns a 2005 Honda Accord. The contact stated that the trunk lock on his vehicle was defective. He had to slam the trunk at least three to four times before it locked. The last time he slammed the trunk the rear glass shattered. He took the vehicle to the dealer for repair and they repaired the window and the trunk. Currently, three weeks later, the latch is not working again. There are no recalls regarding this failure. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 54,000.
