CarComplaints.com Notes: Haven't we all owned one of these things at some point? Despite being a popular first car for teenage drivers and, as a result, being beat up like no other, the late 90's Civic is a true endurance car. And it still gets better gas mileage than more modern cars.

Car will not start after a substantial amount of rain. The first time it happened we had a large amount of rain over the course of a day.

The second time it happened it rained for about three days straight. It did fine for the first two days, but the third day was the killer! She wouldn't start. The engine would fire up, but it wouldn't connect to start.

In both instances, leaving the car to sit for a couple of days did the trick.

This week it stopped on Wednesday, still wouldn't start on Thursday, but no problems today.

The first time it was down for about two days as well.

I've had my car since August, 1989. No problem. Then last September, 2002 (with 122000 miles on her) one day she wouldn't start-waited for a minute or two then tried again and she was fine. It happened again 4 MONTHS later (Jan, 2003)almost to the day. I bought it into Firestone since Honda is too far away and the guy very honestly said they couldn't determine what's wrong until it happens and, of course, she started up purring like a kitten. On 3/31/03, I took her into Honda for her annual major servicing in preparation for my annual drive to Florida. I wrote out the problem. Later in the day when they called and told me that my car needed considerable brake work and boots (whatever they are) for the car plus usual repairs which was beginning to mount up moneywise they told me they couldn't determine what was wrong unless they analyzed it completely === well as I said above, the bill was running high (the final amount was $1400.00) I said forget it I'll take my chances and she was fine. Drove to Florida and didn't have any problem until the end of May (there's that 4 month period again). I took her in for a lube job which I do every 3 months. Drove home to CT --- everything is fine but now she starts having this problem maybe once a week. Oh by the way, she is now up to 129,000. I took her in for a lube job on 7/14/03 this past Monday. Incidentally, I was advised by an acquaintence that maybe it was the fuel injection not being clean so I've been putting fuel injection fluid in after every oil change. Anyway, beginning Wed 7/16 and up to today, she's acting up once a day. I know I should bring her into Honda but I'm terrified what it's going to cost. Does any one have any idea what it could be????? By the way, once she starts she's perfect.
