The contact owns a 1999 Honda Civic. The contact was driving approximately 10 mph approaching a traffic signal when the brakes were engaged and the vehicle began to surge forward unexpectedly. The brake pedal was applied repeatedly before the vehicle came to a stop. The vehicle was currently at an authorized dealer for diagnostic testing. The contact was not made aware of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 9,000 updated 08/01/11 the consumer stated he may have accidentally hit the accelerator pedal, but couldn't be sure, but when it happened 15 minutes later, he made sure he hit applied the brake with extreme force. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they kept it for two days, but was unable to find a problem. Updated 08/08/11.

The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic where the contact was informed that the electronic throttle system would need replacing. The vehicle was not repaired. The current and failure mileage was 94,000.
