The passenger side power sliding door will not open/close using any of the controls. We have to close it manually but it won't latch completely so we are forced to drive with the door slightly ajar. This is a huge safety issue for me with my two daughters sitting there. Because the door is slightly open we have to turn off the main power switch to the sliding doors to avoid having the constant buzzing noise. This means they are locked in the back seat and unable to open the doors in the event of an emergency. This has happened multiple times even after trips to the Honda dealership to have it fixed. This is a huge safety issue and needs to be addressed by Honda.

I have 2000 Honda Odyssey the power sliding doors fail on a regular basis which entails not being able to open and or close sliding van doors. They will start to close then reopen, not close at all and will not latch properly. When you start to drive the door ajar light will come on and the buzzer will buzz indicating the door is not properly sealed. My son has difficulty with these power doors and has got his hand caught once. This is a safety hazard and a liability waiting to happen.

2000 Honda Odyssey, the electric sliding door does not shut all the way and there is possibility that it can open while driving at high speed, that can result in a very dangerous situation because mostly small children are riding in the back seat.

Manual side doors often stick so badly it cannot be opened except by someone getting inside and kicking the door. A child could not exert enough force. Once the handle broke off. 2000 Honda Odyssey.

Driving on I270 South towards 33 East at 65 mph with 4 teenagers and 1 8 week old baby in my 2000 Honda Odyssey and the rear sliding passenger door flies open on its own. My 6 year old daughter was sitting in the seat next to the door when it flew open. It scared her half to death as she was staring at the pavement going by at 65 mph. The door wasn't even on. I turn them off because I am afraid of them opening when they shouldn't after hearing all the stories about these doors. It's a good thing my daughter had her seatbelt on and sitting in her seat or this could have been very tragic. No one died this time. Why will Honda not see there is a serious safety issue here. The latch has been replaced numerous times and yet it is still failing to the point the door will not stay shut on it's own. Something must be done before someone dies here!!!

I own a 2000 Honda Odyssey ex minivan with automatic sliding side doors. The driver's side sliding door has been malfunctioning for about six years, as it fails to automatically open and/or close using the dash switch, remote (key) button, or the door handle on the sliding door itself. The door will do one of the following: Upon actuation of above opening methods, it will not open at all, but beep three times; open partially and stop - and beep three times; open partially, then close on its own; or successfully open. I estimate the failure rate for failing to successfully open to be approximately 66% - roughly 2/3 of the time. This van is used, at times, to Transport children, and I consider this problem to be safety-related, as it is most-difficult to open this door manually - from either inside or outside the minivan.

Power sliding van doors will not close or open completely, we have to drive with infants in seats next to doors that will not close. If we were involved in an accident or any emergency that required immediate evacuation these faulty doors would prohibit timely departure from the interior of the vehicle and prevent any convenient access by emergency personnel. So far Honda is ignoring this major safety defect and cannot fix this problem.

I am owner of Honda Odyssey 2000. I have had problems with sliding doors on this vehicle from early on. After the warranty expired, I have had multiple failures on these doors and they have cost me hundreds of dollars. Dealer charged me $500 to fix these doors in my recent incidence. These repair charges are a highway robbery since I feel I should not be paying for what is clearly a manufacturing and design defect in the vehicle. Why isn't Honda recalling these vans and fixing these door problems once & for all?

Automatic sliding doors do not retract when obstructed by a child. Several instances of doors narrowly closing on a child. This despite doors being repaired (at my own cost). Apparent obvious manufacturer defect.

My 6 year old daughter's finger got caught in the sliding door of our 2000 Honda Odyssey mini van. The door mechanism failed to detect her finger in its path and proceeded to close resulting in contusion and abrasion. She was treated at an emergency care facility where they ruled out any broken bones (thankfully). Extreme human force was needed to pry the door open so that she could remove her injured finger from the closed door. This door has been checked in the past on 2 occasions by 2 separate Honda dealerships. Both determined that the door operated in compliance with the manufacturer's guidelines. I am so thankful that the outcome was not more serious as it could have been. I am only interested in getting the word out to other owners and find out what the manufacturer has to say about these circumstances.

Odyssey 4-cyl

  • Manual transmission
  • 42,000 miles
Manual sliding doors stick to the point that occupants cannot get out of the car. It has taken two large adults (one pulling from the outside and the other kicking from the inside) to open the doors. Problem began in summer, 2003. We broke and had to replace one of the door handles in 11/04 because we were pulling so hard to get the door open. Complained whenever we took the car in for service, but our complaints never appear on our invoices. Therefore, according to Honda, there is no record of a problem with our doors. Honda's recommendation has been to lubricate the doors, but we never notice any improvement in the problem. My dealer just informed me that a service bulletin has been issued recommending the replacement of the door seals at a cost to us of nearly $400. As a "goodwill" gesture, they have offered to pay for the parts, but we will pay nearly $200 to correct this problem. This seems to be a safety issue that Honda should correct, but as the problem arose after our 30,000 mile warranty, they feel there is no obligation to fix the problem. I keep thinking about my children being trapped, perhaps with the car on fire, and wonder how Honda can treat the issue so casually.
