Most of these Odyssey transmissions are still under warranty, but so far Toyota generally hasn't been able to diagnose or fix the clunking problem — that's the reason for our low rating. Some owners have reported it was a stuck solenoid, & in a few cases Honda has replaced the entire transmission.

As more of these Odysseys start exceeding the 60,000-mile powertrain warranty limit, buyer beware.

We have a 2014 Honda Odyssey and have had issues with braking at speed great than 50mph. We brought the car into Courtesy Honda for a recall and told us we had warped rotors. I changed the rotors and brakes on all four tires and worked well until about a month ago and the same issue has started again. Why are the rotors warping. Today, I am going to re-grease the slides to see if this was this issue, however, by reading up on the issue there are a lot of complaints.

Bought a used 2014 Odyssey with 24900 miles on it. Immediately began to notice excessive brake dust on front wheels and sides of the van. Shortly after discovered a vibration while braking. Dealership said we warped the rotors riding the brakes. Well we could not argue with them as we just bought the van, and previous owner may have done it.

We paid for rotor turn on front brakes and had to buy new pads because that is necessary when turning rotors the dealership said. Well it didn’t take long to start seeing excessive brake dust again. 15000 miles later the vibration is back and I’m guessing the rotors are warped. I’ll take it to dealership and they will tell us we warped rotors by riding the brakes. They will try to charge us another 300 bucks to turn rotors and put on new pads. I’ll say no thanks!

My Honda 2014 Odyssey shakes when I braked with speed of 40 miles per hour, it so dangerous , and my vehicle has just 30,000 miles. I know brake rotor had a problem and took to Honda dealer they want me to pay around $ 500 to fix it.

second odyssey with the same problem. first was a 2008 with warped rotors, turned them down and 2000 miles later same thing. replaced with after market rotors and never had another problem. bought a 2014 new and now having the same problem. will replace them with good after market rotors as original equipment rotors are no good and all warp

This is the second Honda Odyssey we bought. First was a 2008. The same thing happened with that one. We turned the rotors on that one and before 4000 miles had the same shake when you drive the car over 100 miles at highway speeds. Honda knows that they have a problem but will not address it with the customer. Found on the internet that they have a replacement for 2011 to 2014 that has holes in the hat to cool the rotor (service Bulletin number a14-0008 ) How can we put pressure on Honda to replace them all ? This is a SAFETY PROBLEM I replaced the 2008 with aftermarket rotors and never had a problem after that I guess that is what I am going to have to do with this one I will NEVER buy another HONDA and will tell every one that they have a defective product that they will not take care of.

I bought a brand new Honda Odyssey Elite in March 2014. By June/July of 2015, probably 12000-15000 miles there was a severe shake in the steering wheel when breaking. I knew there was not a problem with the break pads but the rotors are the issue. I went to the dealer where I purchased the van and they refused to replace them, they wanted to turn them. I said no, the car came with bad rotors from the manufacturing and was brand new, still under manufacturing warranty, I want them replaced. I had to call the headquarters and made a complaint. After a battle they replaced the rotors (I hope so).

Less than 2 years now, June 2017, it does it again. Same problem same symptoms. BAD ROTORS. This should be a recall! I am about to go back to the dealer to find out what they are going to do now. My car has 38000 miles now, the manufacturing warranty is no longer in effect. I bought extended warranty but I have to pay deductible every time I take the car in for repairs. This break/rotor issue is their problem to fix. I hope I succeed!

Bought Honda 1/15/17 with 32000 miles. Left for vacation to Florida, after a few hundred miles of expressway driving noticed brake pulsation that got worse & worse. While in Florida took vehicle to Honda dealer where they resurfaced front rotors. Solved problem for a short time, however, pulsation has become more frequent & worse. Is there a heavy duty rotor (non oem) that will solve problem? Service advisor in Florida said they could do so for approximately $600.00. Local dealer here in Michigan didn't know that there was anything like this available. Suggestions, Please ????

Update from Jun 7, 2018: Solved problem had heavy duty rotors installed . Totally solved the problem !!! Of course Honda would not

admit that they had a problem with light weight rotors....

I'm fed up with resurfacing the rotors every time I go for service. this is not covered under warranty. There is some serious issues with the rotors and brakes. Honda should do something about it instead of Honda owners paying for their faulty brakes and rotors. Will never buy another Honda Odyssey again.

2014 Honda Odyssey purchased new. Within the first 15k-20k miles the front rotors became terribly warped and caused the steering wheel and front end of the car to violently shake while braking at highway speeds. The shaking is not noticeable under 30mph but the faster you go, the worse the shaking becomes. Braking performance is drastically reduced. I took the car to a Honda dealer who turned the rotors and replaced the pads under warranty. Once again after another 15k the exact same problem arose and I was out of warranty. I paid to have the rotors and pads replaced. Now I'm at 45k miles with the same problem once again!!! My wife drives this Odyssey to take our kids to and from school in flat Southern California. There is absolutely no excuse for rotors to repeatedly warp under normal driving conditions. This is an obvious design flaw or sub-par manufacturing of the Honda rotors. There are so many complaints on this issue, Honda should issue a recall to fix the design problem or source higher quality rotors. I'm contacting a lemon law attorney after I contact Honda USA. The flaw has become something we just live with because once the shaking starts we simply don't have the time to instantly take it in for repair...so we live with it for a few thousand miles.

At 30,000 miles the steering wheel started to shake when braking. Dealer repaired brakes by grinding rotors under warranty. Now at 60,000 miles the steering wheel is again starting to shake, and dealer will not repair under warranty. When buying a car it is not our expectation that the rotors will need grinding every 30,000 miles and replacement every 60,000 miles.

We still own a 2005 Honda Odyssey with 350,000 miles and have only replace brake pads- nothing with rotors. The 2014 Odyssey has a brake design mistake which Honda needs to take ownership of and fix.

Before 12,000 miles Honda dealer resurfaced front rotors under warranty. By 20,000 miles they were obviously warped again. No warranty coverage offered. Dealer offered to resurface for $216. Looking into replacing rotors with non-oem rotors as resurfacing factory rotors has not worked well. Dealer admitted that factory rotors are not lasting long, particularly in mountainous areas because of significant heat buildup. Honda Odyssey forum honors have mentioned that as a long time issue since at least 2011.

We bought this vehicle brand new. At about 25,000 miles I noticed on a long trip this past weekend that the front rotors were warped which results in serious braking and steering issues, mainly hard vibrations of the steering wheel and it feels like the whole car shakes and the braking efficiency is reduced. I had the same problem with a 2004 Odyssey. The problem usually occurs or is most noticeable during longer road trips (after ~100 miles) once the rotors are hot and the problem gets worse as the length of the trip increases. This is the first trip during which I have noticed this problem with this vehicle. Based on similar experience with my 2004 Odyssey and the other complaints on this website, I will purchase new, non-Honda, rotors and replace these myself. It's obvious that turning these rotors is a very temporary fix and Honda has not improved their product over the last 12+ years.

Same as previously reported - about 28,000 miles - the steering wheel started shaking when braking. Took the dealership for an oil change and mentioned the shaking - only to be told the front rotors were warped and needed to be smoothed. And not covered under warranty, b/c warranty only covers 12,000 miles. Thought it was a bumper and bumper warranty - at least that is what we were told. I've got a Chevrolet Silverado that is 6 years old and 126,000 miles - with the original brake pads and rotors that have never had to be smoothed ?

Maybe I should have bought my wife a Chevrolet and not a Honda ?

The warped rotors were noticeable very early on - before 15,000 miles. My wife and I do not brake hard and we do not frequent mountainous terrain, so this should not be happening with so few miles. We are not going to pay for new rotors or grinding at this point, because it may simply re-occur in the near future. The numerous complaints on the internet lead me to believe the brakes for this vehicle may be substandard.

I should have taken it in when still under original warranty. But from what I have read, the dealers just resurface the rotors and the problem reoccurs later. I am angry with Honda, that this problem has been there since 2011 and it feels like a safety issue at highway speeds. Mine shakes badly. The dealer said since there is only 12K mile warranty, I have to pay. But I have never had such an issue in 40 years of driving. I am definitely not hard of brakes and rarely ever had to even change brake pads except after 80-100K miles. I want Honda to replace the rotors with a new part that they released, that fixes problem. It acknowledges that the 2011-2014 rotors are deficient and the dealer service adviser even told me this.

Premium vehicle with ample warranty and part of a family of vehicles touting highest quality ratings should not have multiple years of early warping of rotors for brakes cited all over the place. If normal wear and tear means early replacement of rotors, then something is wrong with the quality process.
