CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2014 and 2015 Honda Odyssey shows an early trend of transmission problems with clunking/jerking when shifting gears.

Most of these Odyssey transmissions are still under warranty, but so far Toyota generally hasn't been able to diagnose or fix the clunking problem — that's the reason for our low rating. Some owners have reported it was a stuck solenoid, & in a few cases Honda has replaced the entire transmission.

As more of these Odysseys start exceeding the 60,000-mile powertrain warranty limit, buyer beware.

We have noticed that our 2014 Odyessy's engine has a hesitation and miss at acceleration, especially when driving on hilly terrain! We have tried adding fuel injector cleaner to our fuel, thinking that our injectors are fouled, but it hasn't seemed to help !

4 times this has happened to us. We could have been rear-ended.

I was in stop and go traffic for 2 hours, hot day, A/C on. At some point the van decided that when I pressed the accelerator pedal down it did not want to go. Had to pull over, thinking car trouble, and let the van "cool off" for an hour or so as my family ate lunch. Problem has not repeated since, but I fear that it is looming...

Honda company should have a recall to solve this jerking problem at low speed from 0-30 miles.

Odyssey Elite

  • Automatic transmission
  • 18,000 miles

Transmission hesitates as it shifts gears on low end and also experiences some jerkiness and harsh engagement/shifting.

Update from Jul 1, 2015: Took Odyssey to dealer and they uploaded a software upgrade for the transmission. So far this seems to have fixed it.

Odyssey Limited

The car stall for 1-3 seconds during moderate acceleration and then starts accelerating again. It happens repeatedly. Drove to Honda of Lisle where the test drive resulted in not being able to replicate the issue. They kept it overnight and tested again in the morning. No error codes and no visible issues. Temperature was around 18 degree F, and I read on here that someone else thought it might be temperature related.

It is definitely scary in that the hesitation could result in someone rear ending you and your loved ones. I have filed a case with American Honda and let them know that I think this is a safety issue and that it needs to be addressed.
