Azera V6

Whenever I start my 2012 Azera, I get a loud clattering noise that doesn't goes away. the longer its started the less noise but you can still hear. took the car to the shop I was told I need my oil changed. The noise was still there. Took it back again I was told I need to replace the timing tension belt. that was replaced and the noise still occurs every time I start it. Now when I start it I get a louder noise and my car stalls very bad when I drive. I believe it may be metal shaving in my engine and Hyundai needs to recall these engines Immediately like they did the 11-14 Sonata before someone get seriously hurt.

Azera 3.3L V6

So I also started to notice this loud clatter at start up. Initially it wasn't as bad but as time went on it became louder and clattered for longer time, especially after the car sat overnight. Took the car in for maintenance at the Hyundai dealer to get diagnosed since it still had factory warranty....everything checked out fine. NOPE! Noise continued.

I took the car to Carmax (where I purchased the vehicle and purchased the extended warranty). They were able to diagnose the problem, told me the clatter had to deal with the Timing Chain Tensioner. Apparently the Azera has a timing chain, and not a belt.. This issue is worrisome because my cars low millage relative to the year (48k/2012). They told me the issue would take over 7 days to fix because it requires ordering a lot of parts and every part has to confirmed with the warranty... So far everything seems to be covered.

I spoke to an Azera owner who had the same problem, he stated that he took it in for repairs and "they" not sure who they are, but they (assuming dealer) spent over $3000 to fix and the problem returned. He decided to trade the car in. My concern is that the fix will only be temporary, and that it will return once both my warranties expire (factory/Carmax warranty). Seriously debating a trade since, this is a serious problem with low mileage..not a good sign for the future. I'll add a follow up when I get information.

Azera STD 3.8L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 60,000 miles

I have had the local dealership keep the car overnight and go through a cold start sequence. They stated that the clatter is so transient that they cannot pinpoint the source. I think they are stalling until the warranty is over. If that happens, it will be one and done for Hyundai...for me.......

I was just called by my service writer...I am now getting ANOTHER new engine in this car! I bought it brand new and at 34k miles I had been noticing strange sound at start up. The 1st time I took it in they told me whom ever changed my oil used the wrong filter...WRONG! They eventually discovered metal shavings when they dropped my oil pan. I was sent a brand new engine (cost $15,000) from Hyundai. Over the last 6 months I noticed the same noise returning. I started it up last Friday morning and it sounded like a box of rocks under my hood! I immediately took it back to Hyundai...guess what?? Metal shavings in my oil pan again!! There are only 40k miles on the last engine they installed.

I think I am the only person to get 2 new engines...the cost of this engine (short block $13k) more than my car is worth at this point. It is under warranty and I actually have a 200,000 mile drive train warranty but WTF?? I have seen several complaints on this site...I URGE you to make your dealership drop your oil pan and see if you have metal shavings...you need a new engine!!! I love my Azera and it is paid for but this is crazy. They said they are putting this engine together at the dealership instead of the factory...wish they would just give me a new car. I think its too late for lemon law.

Azera V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 98,880 miles

My wife has been complaining about the loud clattering sound that she hears every time she starts the car in the morning after the car has sit over night. We reported this sound when the car had about 48,000 miles while the car in for a oil change. The Hyundai dealer stated that all their Azera's made that sound and that there was no damage to the engine. The car now has 98,880 miles and the dealer now states that the internal oil control valve needs to be changed. The dealer stated that this repair is not under the warranty.

I want to know if any other Hyundai owners are experiencing this same issue? I think that there should be a recall on this control valve that is malfunctioning before the car has 50,000 miles.

Brought vehicle into the local dealership and nothing was done, called Hyundai and they sent a rep down and after that visit we were told it's normal because some of their other models are doing the same thing. When cranking my vehicle it is so loud people turn and look at me, so embarrassing. I will never buy another Hyundai again.
