I purchased Elantra 1 with 22000km gearbox failure within 1 week. Approx 2 1/2 months later Hyundai SA decided that due to cost they would replace the car with a later and fewer km car,
1 year later at just on 60000km the engine was blown due to failure of the oil pump according to my QUALIFIED mechanic.
Hyundai South Africa are not prepared to honour their warranty as they claim that due to the vehicle not being serviced at their facility it is not covered under warranty.
The owners manual which i have clearly states that "Although it is strongly recomended that they be performed by the factory trained technicians at your Hyundai dealer, these procedures may be performed at any qualified service facility."
The car was seviced on delivery and in February 2005 at 47000 km by a qualified facility. The engine failure is not due to lack of service or though not been serviced at a Hyundai facility but due to a definite flaw in this car. I have been without a car for 6months and believe that as Hyundai are not customer friendly I am forced to start the costly and time consuming process in the law courts to get relief.
