2010 Hyundai Sonata Owner Comments

problem #3

Sonata 4-cyl

On 12/30/2015, the tire pressure light on my 2010 Hyundai Sonata went on. I took the car on 12/31/2015 to discount tire for the tires to be checked. The tech discovered the sidewalls on all 4 tires were severely cracked. The front tire on the drivers side had a 5-6" long crack which was a 1/2" deep. The front passenger tire had a V shaped crack approx. 2" long on each side and approx. 1/4" deep. Both of the rear tires had visible cracks. The tech said it was not safe to drive the car & all 4 tires needed to be replaced. The tires are the original Michelin energy mxv4 S8 radial sxe P215/60/R16-94V that came with the car, which I purchased brand new. I have only 33,000 miles on the car and all 4 tires have plenty of tread left and should not have had to be replaced. There currently is not & never has been a recall on these tires. However, there have been approx. 46 complaints on this site alone for the same issue that I am currently having. There were descriptions on this site of dangerous incidents that had happened on highways, local streets, etc. Sitting blowouts for no apparent reason that were caused by the defect in this particular tire. These complaints have been documented on your site starting in April 2003 & are still currently happening. Michelin has not taken responsibility for their defective tires by issuing a recall or by allowing replacement tires without cost to the owner. I've taken photos of my tires but was unable to upload the photos to this site. I would like an investigation to be done on this tires defects and if a recall is ever done that I would receive notification. Thank you. Sonata 6-cyl

  • 18,000 miles
I bought a 2010 Hyundai Sonata with 10K miles on it the end of March 2011. The tires on the vehicle were hankook optimo H 426. After I had put less than 10K additional miles on the vehicle, I had one of the tires bulge and implode from within. Within the month following this 2 more tires bulged on the sidewall and were replaced. The tires were all in different spots on my vehicle and it was three separate incidents. Neither the Hyundai dealership nor hankook tires would take responsibility for this defect in the tires.
