On 05/10/2018, I noticed severe vibration and clunking in steering wheel. Brought vehicle to Hyundai dealer and they replaced the flexible coupling in the steering column due to wear. On 08/08/2018, I brought the vehicle to the Hyundai dealer for routine service and asked them to check the brakes as I experienced an intermittent loud squeaking from the brake pedal. They were unable to diagnose the problem. On 09/25/2018, I attempted to start the vehicle from a stationary position and when I depressed the brake, the pedal went all the way to the floor and a warning came on the dash advising me that the brakes had failed and I needed to stop immediately. I shut the vehicle off and then attempted to restart. Upon restart the warning condition did not reoccur. Vehicle towed to Hyundai dealer for diagnosis. I was advised that the issue seems to have corrected itself and the brake system simply needed to be recalibrated.

I have had my car for a couple years. Randomly, I got an alert while keeping regular maintenacnce on my car saying "check brakes" and "hybrid system warning". I brought it to the dealership and they said the "hecu, hydraulic electronic control unit (hecu)" is faulty. This is an issue with the Hyundai genesis, but not an active recall on the 2013 Sonata hybrid. However, I believe my model of car is affected by this issue, as well. The dealership said they could not do anything for me because there is not active recall, so I am reaching out to you to report this. I hope an investigation can take place for this because I know I am not the only one affected by this issue at no fault of my own. Thank you so much.

On October 28, 2017, I was injured in an automobile collision, which was caused solely by a malfunction by my 2013 Hyundai sonata. On that date, I was driving my vehicle safely and carefully, like I always do. I was proceeding slowly in my car, and traveling between 10 miles per hour. I stepped on the brake pedal and tried to bring my vehicle to a complete stop. However, when I stepped on the brake pedal, the brakes would not engage, and the car kept moving forward and the shifting gears got stuck. Despite my multiple efforts to apply sufficient force to the brakes, the car would not stop. I then tried to disengage the transmission by placing the shift selector to 'neutral, ' but I could not move shifter or move the shifter from 'drive' to 'neutral.' Despite pressing firmly on the button and shifter, I was unable to put the car in neutral, and it proceeded forwarded until it struck a street sign, whereupon my vehicle came to rest. This is not the first time I had these problems with my car. I purchased my vehicle on or about October 15, 2014 from mission hills Hyundai ('dealer'), and have always had it serviced there. Earlier this year, on or about May 18, 2017, I took my car to the dealer to have the brakes and transmission inspected and serviced. At that time, I explained to the dealer service department that I was having difficulty with the brakes and shifter when putting the car into reverse.

The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Sonata hybrid. While driving various speeds, a loud noise was heard when the brake pedal was applied without warning. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer (headquarter Hyundai located at 3775 us-17, sanford, fl 32773; (407) 292-0000) where it was diagnosed that the hydraulic pump and the brake line needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred several other times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer approximately five times, but there was no remedy for the failure. The manufacturer was contacted at 800-633-5151 and assigned a case manager. Case number: 10207156 was provided. The failure mileage was 15,000.

I was approaching a red light while driving in city traffic, traveling 35-40 mph, when I took my foot off the gas to slow down and prepare to stop for traffic and the red light. When I applied my brakes, the pedal went all the way to the floor and the vehicle would not slow down or stop, warning chimes began to go off. I swerved to avoid hitting several vehicles in front of me as I applied the emergency brake, which only gave enough resistance to slow but not stop the car. I was able to get my vehicle to slow to a stop when it started to roll backwards, the only way I was able to keep the vehicle from rolling backwards was to shift it in to park. Once I was safely stopped, I observed in the information notification center a brake system failure message, which was the reason for the warning chimes. I contacted Hyundai roadside assistance and they towed it to the nearest Hyundai dealership. This is the 2nd complete brake failure in 6 months, 9th time in and over 30 days, and counting, for brake issues.

I was driving my vehicle out of my neighborhood, traveling at or around 25 mph. As I approached the stop sign that exits out to the main road, I applied my brakes and the pedal went all the way to the floor and the vehicle would not stop. I immediately applied the emergency brake, which slowed the vehicle but did not stop it. I avoided being hit on my drivers side by traffic and was able to bring the vehicle to a safe stop in the center median of the main city road. No warning lights or chimes came on notifying me of a brake issue. The vehicle was taken to the local Hyundai dealership where they had it in their shop for 14 days.

I bought this 2013 hybrid new about 6 months ago. There are 2 main issues I have had with the car. First: The problem is the car sometimes goes about 3 mph for approximately 25 feet before lurching with great acceleration. I drove with the 'energy flow' mode on the display to see what was showing when this problem was occurring. According to the owner's manual the display was showing the "engine generation/motor drive" (to decelerate the vehicle, engine braking is used while the regenerative braking is applied and also charges the hybrid battery. [engine>battery>wheel]). this sounds like a deceleration mode, but should this be happening when my foot is pressing the gas pedal? it has occurred when I have slowed to make a left turn and also when accelerating from a dead stop. It happens when I am applying steady pressure or pumping the pedal. This can be a huge potential problem/accident waiting to happen if I am attempting to turn or cross a road with oncoming traffic because I may not be moving fast enough to cross before the traffic gets to me. Even if they were over a hundred feet away when I started the turn/to cross the intersection. Second: As has been previously mentioned by others, there is a 'thump' felt at times while braking. It is felt in the driver's seat and through the brake pedal and also felt by the passenger's through their seats. The best way to describe it would be the feeling of being rear-ended and pushed forward several inches. As driver, my head is usually an inch or two away from the head rest and when this happens my head hits the headrest or the headrest hits my head. The brake pedal itself is not affected, as there is no feeling of losing the brake/not slowing down. It's just a 'thump' felt.

Day after purchase, beeps and notification to pull over and check charging system. Had car towed one week later car was returned to us. Dealer installed a new battery. Running fine except brakes make a noise when depressed quickly. March 28th, 11 months later coming home from Florida, driving on interstate 95 late at night in stop & go traffic, beeps and notification to pull over and check charging system. Pulled car over shut off. Restarted car and continued driving. Check engine light stayed on for 24 hrs. Returned to dealer that week could find nothing wrong with charging system. And could not duplicate braking sound at dealership, but still making noise sporatically. May 15th, late on a Saturday night, stopped to make left hand turn, I started to accelerate, half way into the turn, car would not accelerate, bells and notification to check charging system. With traffic coming towards me, I had to shut down engine and restart again. If oncoming traffic was slightly faster I would have been hit. Check engine light stayed on overnight but went off the next day. Returning to dealer this week. Don't expect any positive results as last time they said they cannot find anything wrong. I loved my car, however driving it now makes me very nervous!

The brake pedal makes a noise when you depress the pedal. At times the pedal sticks momentarily then the brakes will grab, as if I slammed on the brakes. The issue was looked at by the dealership who verified the, squeak, duck sound coming from the pedal area but they were not able to determine the cause. This issue was bumped up to Hyundai corporate engineers who have not "found" a solution. The sound is consistent and the sudden brake grab occurs intermittently.

I took my Sonata hybrid in for service. I told the service manager that every morning I get into the car and I apply the brakes when starting, the brakes make a noise. It almost sounds like an old rusty spring that someone in trying to push down and it squeaks. It does not make this noise when the car has been driven. Only when its cold or just being started. The techs were unable to find anything but told me to keep an eye on it and if any recalls came in then they might be able to fix the problem. It has been doing this for a long time. Not getting any worse and not getting better by itself. It just should not be doing this on a new car, period.

Dear. I have not got an incident, but the brake has a problem. When I put on the brakes, it sounds strange. I visited the dear shop and then they cannot find the reason. The service center inquires a Hyundai headquarter about the reason. They called me that it is no problem for safety and are fining the reason. However, I am so afraid of driving even the safety is fine. This is the brake problem. I just let you know this problem. Please figure out this problem.

I was parking the car (after turning around and reversing) and as I applied the brakes to ease into the parking spot the brakes and car just stopped functioning. I depressed the brakes further and absolutely no response. The car moved forward at a slow speed and went up the curb, toppled a small tree and knocked a parking kiosk over on the sidewalk. Fortunately it was 8:10 am so nobody was walking on the sidewalk. Airbags did not deploy. Some damage from the metal kiosk and tie rod broken from curb. Very disconcerting that I lost complete brake power. Could do nothing as the car just continued to move forward until an object caused it to stop. No confidence in the car.....
