CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2016 Tucson comes with a dual-clutch, 7-speed transmission. But Hyundai forgot to tell you about one key phrase – zero-move. That's right, an alarming number of owners have said their SUV wouldn't accelerate after a stop.

Turns out that's because the transmission's application logic has been stumbling all over itself. Hyundai recalled the issue in September 2016, but it's difficult to say if owners are out-of-the-woods, or if this is just a sign of things to come.

On May 17th my engine locked up as I was pulling out of a driveway. Check Oil light came on a split second before the car locked up. It was not even enough time for me to safely turn off the engine. Upon my own inspection there was no oil on my oil stick even though car receives regular maintenance. Car is now at the closest dealership for TOTAL ENGINE REPLACEMENT. Problem was confirmed to be an issue with the bearings. Communication with the dealership has been poor but I believe inspection is available. They have not completed the repair as they are waiting on a back ordered part. I was about 1.5 hours away from home about to head over a very dangerous 2 lane bridge with no shoulder. I think I would have lost it if I broke down on the bridge.

Car fails to move forward from stopped position. When gas peddle is applied pressure, car does not move, engine revs up and then car lunges forward. In slow traffic, car lunges forward with no acceleration on the gas pedal. When pulling into traffic, car will cease to move for a couple seconds and then take off. We are extremely worried about getting into an accident with this vehicle.

When driving at a slow speed, such as in a line of cars going through a drive thru, the vehicle begins to skip. Almost hopping along rather than slowly moving. I have observed it happening in both eco mode and regular driving mode. This is not a constant but frequent. I also have instances of where it doesn't pick up speed and takes time to shift gears. I think it may be the transmission skipping and not shifting gears appropriately causing it to hop or jump. At all time the care was in motion and on city streets never on a highways.

My 2016 Hyundai Tucson was failing to accelerating after a stop, and shuddering / slowing down while driving. This is very alarming especially while driving on busy roads in which you could easily cause an accident by not being able to accelerate. I took my car to Hyundai to find out it is an issue with the dual clutch transmission (again, in 2021) - while I have done my research and found there was a safety recall in 2016 for this issue I was surprised to find that Hyundai would not cover the costs of repair. I have filed a claim with Hyundai but have not received any contact back. My vehicle is unsafe to drive, and I am being told I will be charged storage fees if I leave it at the dealership service center without repair while I wait to settle my claim. The vehicle is unsafe to drive, due to an issue that has previously been recalled.

Originally when I purchased my car I complained to the dealer about my radio going black and they claimed it was due to the cold and brushed it off. Now recently I had the same issue but now as I was driving straight on the highway all of the lights on the dash keep flickering on and off telling me to check every system. My car signals/hazards will not work. Speedometer will not work along with blind spot recognition and other things.

When pulling out of parking area, or starting up from a complete stop at a light or stop sign, when I press the gas of the vehicle, it hesitates. It almost seems like it’'s going to cut out and then it catches and lounges forward. I noticed it from the time I purchased it.

Was driving on the highway going approximately 70 mph and all of a sudden I hear a loud rattling noise and lights on the dash show up car starts smoking and loses power I was unable to start the car after that and had to wait on the side off a busy highway for 3 hours waiting on a tow truck.. fast forward to the mechanic and they discovered that my engine fell apart internally with no root cause...engine only had 73,000...that was on the Friday after thanksgiving. Fast forward to now and I still don't have my car with no known time frame of when I'll get my car back(it's now 1/12/2021). My car has been regularly maintained with all recommended maintenance. My engine was the 2.0 4 cylinder again with only 73,000 miles

At lower speeds the transmission causes the vehicle to lurch. Sometimes goes through 6 gears before reaching 30 mph. Inconsistent response to gas pedal at slower speeds. Difficulty when starting out from stopped position, or slower speeds. Shifting does not always occur at consistent RPM. Have check w/dealer are told that transmission is working according to spec.

When pulling out of parking area, or starting up from a complete stop at a light or stop sign, when I press the gas of the vehicle, it hesitates. It almost seems like it's going to cut out, or bogs downs, and then catches. I make sure if there is an oncoming vehicle coming, I don't pull out in fear this will happen, and I'll get hit by another car. This happens everytime it's driven

I was driving my vehicle down my street when the engine died. Right before it died, I heard a brushing noise and then all the lights illuminated on the dash. There were no other warning noises or lights prior to engine failure. I checked the oil dipstick and there was no oil registering on it. The smear that was on the stick was black. The check engine or low oil light never came on to warn me of a potential problem. There is also no oil on my driveway which would indicate a slow leak. It was towed to the dealer where they told my the engine was dead and I needed a new one. This is not covered under the 10yr./100,000 mile powertrain warranty since I bought this (a year ago) from a friend who was the original owner. It has approximately 89,000 miles on it now. I'm thankful I was in my neighborhood when the engine failed and not on the interstate where I had been moments prior to this incident. It is still at the dealership where I have been quoted $7-9K for an engine replacement. They have offered $2,800 for a trade-in towards another vehicle as an option.

For a few days prior to the incident, the car hesitated slightly from a dead stop while we accelerated. There were no warning lights from the car indicating any issue. Because it seemed odd, we made a appointment to take the car to the dealership to look into the issue. While waiting for our appointment on July 12th, 2020, merging onto the interstate, there was a failure of the transmission, such that the engine would just spin with no power going to the wheels at higher RPM's. feathering the throttle, a speed of about 45 mph could be attained on flat ground and significantly slower on hills. After limping it along to a local shop, were were told that the catalytic converter was clogged, causing it to overheat the torque converter, which had failed sending shrapnel through the transmission. They only knew this because they had to take the car apart, since even after the failure, no warning lights came on. We ended up needing a full transmission rebuild, a new torque converter and a new catalytic converter. This is a huge safety issue, especially since there was no indication from the cars warning systems that anything was wrong, even after the transmission failure. This could have lead to a very serious accident on the interstate.

The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while driving, the vehicle stalled with several unknown warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was restarted and driven to Hyundai de mayaguez, mayagez, 00682, puerto rico, to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the crankshaft position sensor needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to accelerate while driving to the dealer. The vehicle was not yet repaired due to the part not being available for the repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.

When accelerating after stopping, the gas pedal will be pushed down but car will stall and not go. The engine will rev up, but the car does not move and then all of a sudden will accelerate forward. Also, when coasting in rush-hour, accelerating after a stop sign, the car will make jerking movements. It has been taken to a Hyundai dealership where they told me it is a dual-transmission so I just need to be more aggressive with it when taking off from stop light/stop sign. I know that this is not normal and most definitely needs to be revisited as there have obviously been enough complaints and has been an issue previously.
