Driving down the interstate when I saw my rpms go from 1750 to 1400 then shot back to 1750, had it on cruise and it stayed between 1750 and 2000 rpms at 74 mph. Then when I reduced speed it climbed in a split second to 2250 or 2500 rpms. So depending on its mood when traveling 68-74 mph your either at 1750-2500, a 99 mile trip used half a tank of gas on a vehicle that did get 31 mpg.
