CarComplaints.com Notes: There's no way around it, the Cherokee's transmission is junk. There's no other explanation for why a vehicle, usually with under 40,000 miles, would have so many complaints

knocking sound knocking sound knocking sound

The beginning of March 2016. I started to notice a knock coming from the back of my jeep which sounded like the rear end was going to come up through the floor but I was thinking it was bad roads until I had a passenger with me and when I hit a bump they heard it and was saying wow that was loud what was that. I said I had no idea. Once I got home I proceed to have a look at the rear suspension. During my investigation I found that both rear shock covers have fallen down and were resting on the shocks. Trying to put them back in place they would keep dropping. I was concerned being a mechanic that the exposure of the shock rod will cause premature failure as dirt rocks etc will wear it down much faster then normal. The cover is suppose to stop all that. I took it into the dealer and they said yes they need to fix that. So they ordered parts and proceed in fixing them. What ever they did only lasted a few days staying in place. we own three Cherokees in the family so comparing I found the other two shock covers where tight and would not even move. But mine would just keep dropping down. It is going back into the shop again but the person I called to book the appointment said that is normal. I said no the design is meat to keep it up in place at the top to protect from failure. we shall see what they do next. This is a poor design and needs to be redressed. Maybe some aftermarket company will have a better replacement that actual does what it is suppose to do and keep the rear shocks safe when off roading in the Jeep Cherokee Trail hawk.
