Cherokee Latitude 3.2L V6

The cruise control is dangerous. We have a lot of hills/small mountains in northern Alabama. When the cruise control is set and the car gets to the crest of the hill it continues to accelerate. Example; cruise control set to 55 mph, as I go up the hill the transmission automatically downshifts (that's expected) but then as I crest the incline it keeps accelerating, sometimes to 70 MPH, if I don't press on the brake to turn off the cruise control.

Between this and the transmission I'll never buy another Chrysler product.

Cherokee Limited 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission

the cruise control speeds up on its own

Traveling through the mountains with cruise control on and started going downhill when it sped up to 80mph and I had to slam on my brakes to disengage the control when I came so close to hitting the car in front of me. It has also done that on the highway. I will no longer use the cruise control anywhere. The service department said they can't find any thing wrong when they check it out on their computer so I asked them if I get killed or get in an accident will they fix it then. Nothing they could do at this point.

Cherokee Limited V8

transmission fails to down shift while in cruise control

This vehicle was sticking in second gear and was so dangerous - after four trips to dealer and numerous updates - they ended up replacing the transmission at 24K miles. So I have a new (old style - gears go clockwise in old style) transmission. I just took it on an 1500 miles road trip and cruise control failed. Set cruise to 72 or 75 and going down slight incline - failed to regulate speed and in fact ACCELERATED. Almost rear ended a vehicle on interstate in excess of 84 miles an hour. Very dangerous! Took to dealer yesterday and tech shows me a print out, after they look at if for over two hours, stating that at steep inclines, cruise control may not work. I never had this problem with the original transmission and this new problem is not safe. Also this issue was not limited to steep inclines, just a slight downhill road was all that was needed. I am very unhappy with this vehicle.
