CarComplaints.com Notes: Whenever a new product is introduced, there's bound to be some problems. And man oh man, does the 2006 Commander have some problems.

It's the plight of the 1st-generation adopter: you get the newest and shiniest in exchange for a handful of issues that get ironed out in future versions. But what happens when that handful of issues becomes a bucketload? The 2006 Commander has quality control issues like the door handles breaking off and the sunroof leaking. But what's truly worrisome is the electrical problems like the vehicle shutting down unexpectedly, gauges going crazy or the cruise control having a mind of its own.

Bottom line: if you want a Jeep Commander, you're better off looking at a later model year.

Commander Sport Utility 4.7L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 79,500 miles

Waiting at a red light on a major intersection. I began to accelerate to make a left turn, the 2006 Jeep Commander drove about 4 feet and suddenly with no warning it stalled and shut down (off). The 2006 Jeep Commander does not turn on any warning lights, it did allow for quick start up. It is a very dangerous issue because it has happen 4 different occassions, with no solution and at various speed. This truck is an accident waiting to happen.

The problem has been the lack of accountability from Chrysler/jeep Corp. This vehicle is a lemon and has not been resolved. A corp rep was assigned to my case and a blethra of many long repairs. The vehicle, kills, shakes from front end, leaks water on inside, rear seat belts not functional, engine exhaust leaks.

The car ended up in 3rd all by itself. I'm being told that there is an issue with the PCM...this was a recall issue. I'm beginning to think JEEP simply did some "reprogramming" as opposed to some actual replacing! I'm an on a mission to try and find out what's really going on! If you own a Jeep and have had this problem SINCE having your vehicle serviced as a result of the 2008 recall...please post or call the JEEP customer service line at 800-853-1403!!
