The exhaust header cracked on my 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee 6 cylinder > > engine due to a design flaw. The dealer replaced the part with a repair kit. The dealer said a lot of these parts are > > cracking. It could cause carbon monoxide to enter the passenger > > compartment. It cost me $600 to fix when Jeep should recall this part > > and pay me the $600 I paid to fix it. The design engineer put too much > > stress on the part in the design. I am a licensed mechanical engineer > > with over 40 years of experience so I know what I am talking about. I > > can email you a picture of it. I E-mailed daimler Chrysler customer assistance on the problem and they said since the Jeep was out of warranty they would not pay for it. My brother has the same problem. The cracked part is available and I can E-mail a picture of it.

Exhaust manifold weld and seams to engine have and are failing. Exhaust leaks and makes loud noise in the engine compartment area. I contacted daimler/Chrysler about problem and they have not issued any bulletins ore recalls for this very costly and dangerous repair. Currently there are 4 official complaints on file with NHTSA without any further action having been taken.

Exhaust manifold cracked at the weld seam where the two exhaust ducts join into a single pipe and just before the elbow connect between the exhaust manifold and the exhaust pipe, the manifold does not allow for the natural expansion and contraction of the metal, the new models have a redesigned manifold reengineered not to crack from natural thermal stress. All differential bearings replaced due to growling sound. Motor mount replaced.

The engine manifold on my vehicle is totally cracked, which can result in direct carbon monoxide inhalation and/or possibly a fire. In addition this is a very expensive part and expensive service, which should not go bad.
