After a safety recall on a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee for possible fuel leak and ignition source, the vehicle was inspected by the dealer. The remedy was to install a new oem trailer hitch. An aftermarket trailer hitch was installed by me roughly 15 years ago. The inspection said the existing hitch passed and was ok, therefore the dealer did nothing. My contention is that the existing hitch in service for 15 years is not adequate. Corrosion has taken its toll and half of the structural integrity is gone, therefore it does not offer adequate protection to the tank making this vehicle unsafe. It is evident after waiting years to get this remedied by Chrysler that they are waiting for these older model Jeep to disappear to the recycle yard and therefore will not rectify the problem.

How long does it take to get factory recalls corrected? I was notified from Chrysler regarding the 2 Jeep I own. I took the '98 Jeep to firkins Jeep (2700 1st St. Bradenton, fl) twice for them to inspect the Jeep. Both times I had to take off work. (customer #[xxx]) 1/20/14. They told me that they had to wait for the parts from the manufacturer. It's now June!! N45 recall and B02 recall. Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
