The contact owns a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving various speeds, the vehicle stalls without warning. Upon further inspection, the contact concluded that the fuel pump and regulator were the causes of the failure. The vehicle has not been repaired. The dealer stated that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign id number 06E011000 (fuel system, gasoline:delivery:fuel pump); therefore, they would not assume responsibility for any repairs. The failure and current mileages were 102,000.

The vehicle was maneuvered off the road and towed to an independent repair shop who determined the gas sending unit was inoperable. There was a NHTSA recall, # 97V194002, regarding the fuel level sending unit. The vehicle was not included in the recall due to the VIN. Updated 11/03/06.
