Several months ago, I get a quack sound when the door lock/unlock is activated. Initially both locks worked then the rear passenger door doesn't lock but unlocks and the driver's passenger door doesn't unlock but locks. I did a search and found this: www.topix.com/forum/autos/Jeep-grand-Cherokee/tlmudaeofdb3ht8fc page where people are having the same issues. Apparently it is a problem with my 2000 Laredo that presents itself every few years after the fix. Is there or was there ever a recall for this issue?

The door locks on my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee are not functioning. All of them make a loud "quack" noise when I try to unlock or lock the car with the remote entry or from the door. The rear hatch can no longer be opened and both passenger doors have to be unlocked manually. The driver doors have to be locked manually. I have been researching this issue and found hundreds of online blogs about this problem. I contacted my Jeep dealership and the refuse to do anything about it. Does someone have to be injured or worse in order for Jeep to step up and fix their wrong doing? I am hoping you can do something about this issue. Thank you

I am the owner of a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the door locks are failing. I have two doors that have failed and now the tailgate. I cannot possibly open the tailgate at all. The doors have to be manually opened from the inside. This is a safety hazard especially with small children. In the event of an accident, these doors and tailgate will not open. The tailgate window will not work either. Please notify me of a safety recall on this problem!

2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee larado, 105,000 miles. Jeep door locking actuators have been replaced 3 times on one door, and it just went again. In addition to another door actuator having to be replaced as well. According to the internet forums for Jeep, this is a known issue and there are literally thousands of complaints for this same issue on the same make and model of Jeep.

Door lock fails and screeches. Drivers side rear passenger door will not open from the outside. It can only be opened by manually releasing the lock from the inside. If we were to be in an accident the passenger in that seat could not be rescued. This is a common problem - I have research this on the internet and there are thousands of complaints about this. I believe Jeep should be responsible for replacing these defective locks.

My wife and I purchased a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee from the dealership. About two years ago the 4.0 liter 6 cylinder engine started using coolant and causing the coolant light to alarm. The oil pressure would drop to "0" and sound the check gauges alarm. We took the car to the mechanic shop for costly repairs and troubleshooting. They replaced the water pump, couldn't find any leaks, and replaced the oil pump and rear main seal. They checked the bearing clearances and found them within tolerance. The car is still using one to two pints of coolant every three days and the oil continues to drop to "0" after warm-up. We replace the 4 wheel disc brakes and rotors every two years. The hood gas shocks won't hold the hood up and the shocks cost $150 a pair form the dealer and only last one year. We to have electric door locks that screech and don't lock the doors as well as rear light problems that work off and on. The emissions are much higher than normal on our recent smog test. This is an indication that the #3 and 4 cylinder is using the mysterious antifreeze loss. As a retired mechanical engineer I also believe the oil problem to be related. My wife has the Grand Cherokee and I purchased a tj Wrangler new in 2000. I'm concerned this vehicle will develop the same problems having the same engine. We have invested over $50 thousand in these two cars. We need your help to help us offset this burden.

I have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee.. I have the same as all other 2000 jgc owners are having. Been using coolant every few weeks needs to be topped off.. fan was replace due to recall. Had to replace fan control under headlight. Last year was overheating. Replaced water pump/ thermostat. Overheating again. Just replaced thermostat today. Did not fix the problem. Transmission has been shifting hard for the past year and a half. I replaced parts in transmission as suggested by dealer. But it did not fix problem..replaced radiator around may of 09 still having cooling problems. I replaced so many sensors that have failed that I cant remember them all. I still have 1 more year of payments on this vehicle.. its hard to make payments when I have been buying so many parts to try to keep this car running. Bad door seals, they are too small (short or shrinking) it lets water come in back passenger area. Always smells musty inside.. black mold in the rainy season. Taillight brake light on one only works part time. Replaced 3 door latches. Including one on rear hatch.

2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee door actuator. My rear passenger door actuator has broken and the safety problem is that the door will not open at all. A search on the internet reveals that this is a recurring problem with this year and Jeep model. Jeep is aware of the problem as the actuator is not covered under the warranty.

Have owned vehicle for 4 years now. Have had problems with the heat not working 3 times now and still have problems (spent over $1,000 in this alone) the wires connecting to the blow box get to hot and melt the plug & blow box. When it first starts you can wiggle the wires and it will work for a short period of time. Ultimately you must replace the plug & blow box. Last week I was pulled over getting off the express way and a guy stopped me and told me I had no tail lights or brake lights. Again this was another electrical problem. This was very dangerous as I could have been in a serious accident. The tail gate sticks and will not open.

Both tail light assemblies stopped working and was cited by a police officer. Replacement was ~$500. Rear lift gate lock actuator is broken, so cannot open lift gate. Right rear door lock will not allow opening from inside. Shift sensor/solenoid has gone bad twice leading to problems with shifting from gears (revs really high before shifting). Rotors are constantly becoming warped and brakes have to be readjusted. Left blinker no longer works and to fix it, the dealership told me they have to replace this entire engine block for about $800. Power window lock no longer works. Other than that, car runs great :).

2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee heat not working - a common complaint of many Jeep owners seeking to file a class-action lawsuit against daimler Chrysler Jeep. $900 + is beyond absurd to pay to fix this common problem that Jeep should have recalled and fixed for free.

I have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo that has multiple problems that many people have. They are not coincidental. I have the mysterious coolant loss that requires me to fill my Jeep with coolant every three days. Several mechanics have not found in leaks. However in hopes of fixing the problem, I had my water pump replaced, two days later....my low coolant indicator pops up. Then my oil pressure is ridiculous going from zero to max and then making my check gauges light come on. Had the oil pressure sensor replaced because it was supposedly leaking....still having my oil pressure gauge go crazy. My A/C has ceased working as well and now the passenger rear door lock doesn't want to cooperate. I am very upset to the fact that hundreds of people are having the same problems with the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. This vehicle must be recalled! this is a link to a forum of hundreds of people having the same issues. www.carsurvey.org/viewmorecomments_review_78839_2.html.

I bought a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee that had a quacking noise when locking and unlocking in the rear hatch. It finally just quit quacking but along with the silence the mechanism no longer works. Now you can't get in the back hatch. I went online to see how to correct this problem only to find out that it's a common occurrence with this model. I feel like this should be a safety recall as there is no way to get in the vehicle should the front or side doors become disabled, say in an accident. There is no way to manually unlock this hatch so you have to rely on this expensive mechanism to do the job. From my research it looks like this has to be replaced several times in the life of the vehicle.

The contact owns a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that all the door locks in the vehicle have failed. He was able to open the doors with the remote and uses the physical key to lock the doors. Two locks have been replaced, but three are still faulty. The current mileage was 100,000 and failure mileage was 80,000.
