Huge win for car owners! All TSBs to be made public. The Center for Auto Safety just made the NHTSA (US Government) make public the full text of all TSBs from now on. They are the same organization that has petitioned the NHTSA & filed lawsuits to protect car owners over exploding gas tanks & other major safety issues. Whenever you drive in your car, you are safer thanks in part to a lot of work over the years by this small but very effective consumer advocacy group.

While driving down the road I noticed that seat in my Jeep was rocking to the side. Continuing down the road I heard a snap, so I pulled over to the side of the road and noticed that the front left and rear right mounts on my driver seat had broke. Currently looking for a replacement part, but for the time being I took the Jeep to a local welder and had the welder weld the broken brackets. While discussing the repair the welder informed me that this wasnt the first one he has repaired, he too had to weld seat brackets on his Jeep.

Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6) I have been getting a burning smell inside my 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee when I operate the drivers seat heater. I called the Chrysler hotline today to see about any recalls, they replied none on this vehicle. I told them I was concerned that it would catch fire, I got no reply other then there are no campaignson that problem. I am concerned that it could catch fire. Now my seat heater has not been working, the light goes on but no heat. Please advise! [xxx] I purchased this vehicle last month used.

The driver's side front seat in my 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo failed, with the metal support track cracking and then breaking, leaving the seat nearly free. The seat had been loose for several months, since the time I purchased the vehicle in February of 2009. I had returned it to the dealer due to noise in the seat frame, and was told it was "natural wear and tear" and would not be repaired. I have since had the track welded to repair and reinforce the metal, but it does need a new track for any permanent repair, which Chrysler estimates at $1,500. If I had been involved in an accident when this seat was wobbling, I believe it would have failed completely and would not have restrained me in the vehicle. This is a very dangerous safety issue, if not addressed by Chrysler/Jeep, who has been aware of this for many years in the Grand Cherokee, based on the number of online complaints I have seen in recent days. My mechanic also told me it was clear the seat track that is now in the vehicle was not original, and was a replacement part of the original, which also must have failed.

I bought a Grand Cherokee limited in 2001 and the seat heaters (drivers and passengers) were both replaced in the first two years because they became inoperable. In 2007 the drivers side seat heater became so hot it burnt out. In 2008 the passenger side did the same. There has been a recall, but I have been told by Jeep service dept. That my vehicle is not included.

Heated seat in my 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee was not working. I checked with my Jeep dealer to find out that there was a recall on some Jeep for this problem do to the potential of the heater starting a fire. My Jeep did not fall into this recall. I am a diesel tech and decided that I would purchase a new heated seat element and install it my self. I did this today 02-21-2010 and found that the heating element had burnt and started to burn the seat cushion. I found this to be very disturbing. I believe the recall should be looked into. I have since disconnected both heated seats in my Jeep.

Driver's side seat broken in 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Initially the seat started with a metallic grinding sound. Then there was a slight snap. Now the seat rocks back and forth and side-to-side. We have not been able to correct the problem due to the inability to find replacement parts. The dealer fix is entirely too costly.

Noticed slight seat movement during operation. Seat failed while driving (front left bracket area of driver seat.) temporary fix by folding rear seat to support driver seat from falling back. Bolted front part of seat back together, held fairly. Right rear portion near seat back broke shortly after, unable to repair. Seat rocks from side to side, is leaned to the right, and leans to the rear. Original seat still in use.
