All 4 interior door opening handles breaking/failing: Both rear doors totally inoperable. ***this is a dangerous safety issue handles are inoperable in emergency situations, passengers will not be able to exit the vehicle, likely causing serious injury or death!*** manufacturer refuses to and replace/repair handles is prohibitively expensive! manufacturer safety recall warranted.

The interior door handles on my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee are all broken. Two of them are inoperable. The cheap material used by the manufacturer should be recalled as it cracks very easily. Once the inside handle is broken the door can not be opened from the inside. This is a safety concern in case of a fire or accident. The dealer says the whole door panel would have to be replaced and not just the handle, as they are attached together. The cost of each panel is approximately $700 each.

Jeep 2005 door handle housing cracked on all 4 doors. Car has been well maintained. I replaced 1 in 2010 (passenger front at a cost of $700). Now the other 3 are cracked and 2 inoperable. This is a major safety issue as the doors must be opened from the outside.

Interior door handles have cracked and broken causing the handle to be completely unusable from the inside of the vehicle. Driver has to open window and access the exterior door handle to open the door. Back seat passengers are unable to get out without exterior assistance. This a safety concern as the passengers may not be able to exit the vehicle easily in case of an accident.

Noticed in 2010 that small piece of plastic was missing behind one door handle. This is a lightly used one person commuter vehicle. Then in December 2011 all four door handles began to fail. Each has missing pieces of plastic behind each handle that compromise their use. Took vehicle to dealership where it was purchased new and serviced since 2006. Was advised it would be $750 per door to fix as the door handles are integrated into the plastic door panel. Complete failure of all four handles is imminent. We are very concerned for our safety. A brief search of the internet shows that this manufacture defect is widespread in this make and model. It is clear that both the material and design used is defective. Replacement with om parts will not fix, as the problems is with the design and material. Please help us get this issue fixed before someone is killed. It is a foreseeable consequence of this manufacture defect that death could result. If a consumer is involved in a car accident, and the handles fail, the consumer would be unable to get out of the car. In the event of a fire or water crash, the death of the consumer would be directly attributable to manufacture negligence.

3 of 4 interior door handles and panel to which they attach appear to be broken (cracked) and one is non functioning. After a google search of "Jeep interior door handle", I have found hundreds of complaints. Repair costs exceed $2000 dollars from the dealer. Although the aesthetics of this remains annoying to owners, the real problem lies in the fact that door(s) are inoperable from the inside and could potentially "trap" people in accidents.

Driver door supporting interior is breaking and back doors cracking and breaking without anyone using them, my vehicle is in impeccable condition. ***this is a dangerous safety issue if handles break or are inoperable in certain emergency situations, passengers may not be able to exit the vehicle, causing serious injury or death!*** manufacturer charge to replace/repair handles is prohibitively expensive; hope you will address as a recall before someone is seriously injured because they cannot get out of the vehicle in an emergency situation.

The plastic part of the inside door panel which holds the door handle broke so I am unable to open the door from the front driver's side. I can't get out of the car without climbing over to the passenger side of the car. I believe this is a safety issue. This appears to be a common problem with this particular model/year. The passenger side is cracked as well so I expect this will break over time.

Three of the door handles on my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee have broken off and are unusable. The other two are cracking and I am fearful that they will be breaking off soon. The handles and the supporting door frames are all cracking in the same location and the handles then fall off. The manufacturer has been unwilling to even discuss the issue. The dealer states it is $700 -$900 per door to fix. Parts to fix the door handles are unavailable for sale outside the dealerships. Due to the safety issue of being unable to exit the back seat area from the inside, I am unable to allow anyone to ride in the back seats at this time. If an accident were to occur, they would be unable to exit the car from the inside. There are numerous complaints posted as well as a website where hundreds of people are stating the same exact issue with their 2005 Jeep. There was not any outside circumstances that caused this defect. The dealer states it is normal wear and tear. This is an unacceptable safety hazard. I hope you will address as a recall before someone is seriously injured because they cannot get out of the vehicle. The driver side interior door handle began to crack, followed by the other three interior door handles. I can barely open any of the doors from the inside at this point. I fear that very soon, I won't be able to open any of the doors from the inside at all rendering my vehicle useless. This is obviously a factory defect that I could not have caused by myself. The door handles on my vehicle should not be falling apart after only six years. The poor quality of the plastic used to make the door panels is clearly the problem. I cannot afford to replace all four door panels on my own, nor do I feel that I should take full responsibility for cost. I am extremely frustrated and upset by the disappointing quality of the vehicle and the current state of the economy is not making things easier for me.

I have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The interior door handles started breaking from the plastic they are attached to about a year ago.the drivers door is completely broken I do not have any warranty left on the car and looked into fixing and found out that one door alone the part would be $660 before labor. I have all four doors that need to be fixed. I called to speak to the dealership and told them that this was a serious problem and believe the doors are made of cheap or defective parts and was told they could not help me because of the miles on my car. They told me they would not do anything about helping on the costs, I have heard that other folks have been helped with 50% of the costs. I know that there is a serious problem because I also have a VW and Volvo and they are near the same age and do not have anything wrong with them. The safety issue is that the only way someone can get out of the car is to put the window down to open from the outside. They are electric windows so if in an accident it could become tragic. I believe that this should be a recall item for any 2005 vehicle no matter how many miles on the car. I have seen sooo many complaints on the 2005 model having this issue. It is a serious problem that should be required to be fixed by the company. The car has had normal wear and tear. Thankyou

The Jeep Grand Cherokee interior door panels are defective. The handles are all plastic and they all break off from the door panel. Jeep has refused to do anything about it. They have a waiting list for new door panels and they will not produce the part to fix this safety issue. This is a very unsafe problem that could cost a life if the person reaches for the handle to get out of the car and cannot. They need to make this a recall and issue parts to replace this for free for owners of the Jeep.
