The interior door handles have broken off or are about to break off in my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited hemi. There is a common manufacturers material defect, as the door handle "pocket" is made out a brittle plastic that shatters under normal use. This is dangerous because in an emergency, one would not be able to exit the vehicle because the interior door handle does not work. You have to open the power window and open the door from the outside, obviously this is unacceptable and needs to be addressed by Chrysler/Jeep.

2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee plastic surrounding the driver side door handle cracked and fell apart. It was taken apart and glued back together. This lasted a short while and it then broke again. It is not an easy fix. The whole door panel for $600 dollars must be replaced. At times the window must be rolled down to open the door using the outside handle.in case of an electrical failure in an accident you would not be able to exit the vehicle.this is definitely a safety issue. Many Jeep have had all 4 door handles break. This is poor construction. Chrysler needs to step up and recall and fix this issue and not by replacing it with more cheap plastic.

Interior door handles are broken. This is very dangerous because you cannot get out of the car - especially in an emergency. The rear door handles have been very rarely used, and still have broken. This is definitely a mfg defect that they are avoiding. Very dangerous and unacceptable that they (Jeep) are not recognizing this issue.

The interior door handles both front and back are cracking and breaking off in my Jeep Grand Cherokee limited 2005. No longer is it possible to open the front passenger side door from the inside. The back passenger side door is the same. Both the front and back driver side handles are cracking with pieces of plastic broken off. They are eventually going to break off as well. This is not occurring to abuse of opening the doors. I have probably had the back doors opened from the inside a total of 30 times for the three years I have owned the vehicle. Do not have children that ride in the back (have none), and do not Transport people places from the backseat of my car very often. I have searched on line and this is a issue for thousands of other 2005 Jeep Cherokee owners. It is a hazard and danger if someone is unable to get out of my Jeep in a emergency.

2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee, plastic door panel and handle assembly is cracked and or broken behind where the pull handle is. Jeep refuses to fix this issue without charging over 3K for parts and labor. Failure on drive and passenger door @ 50K miles. Handles are now just floating in door cavity. Serious basic safety issue. Please make them fix this via recall.

The contact owns a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee unlimited. The contact stated that the interior door handle plastic support device had broken on all four doors. The dealer was notified and stated that the entire door panel needed to be replaced for $2,610. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.

All interior door panels are cracked around the door handles. Three out of four door handles have snapped off and the very last one is hanging on by a thread. The handles seem to be attached to the actual door panel which is comprised of hard plastic. The design of the door panel and the handle being attached is bad and a safety issue if you can't exit the vehicle if your car dies and you have no power to open the windows. Additionally, if you need to force the doors open from the inside due to a wreck, car on fire, panicking etc., 9X's out of ten you don't have handles and any weight or pressure to remaining handles if any while cause them to just snap off. My car smells of gas constantly and the light comes on to tell me to check the gas cap. I eventually replaced the gas cap after checking it all of the time and now the car just smells of gas and my check engine light comes on sometimes. I've had the car checked by mechanics and the Jeep dealer to no resolve. The constant gas smells give me bad headaches as well as concern when I'm driving.

I own a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited hemi, it only had 26,000 miles on it. All four of the interior door panels have now broke where the door handle is attached. The drivers door panel has broke the worst and the door handle is not even attached to the panel anymore, which has become a safety concern. I have contacted my dealer and turned in a claim for customer complaints. After 3 or 4 weeks they contacted me to say it is out of warranty. That is precisely why I called them and explained my situation. Surely they can do something to alleviate this situation, all four door panels is going to cost around $3,000 dollars. I have read numerous reports about this problem on several different sites on the internet. The whole interior panel is connected to where the door handle is situated. Meaning you have to replace the whole door panel. Please help, this is definitely a big defect and a costly one to us the consumer. Any help to this matter or a fix to this situation would be hugely appreciated.

Over the past year, both driver's side door panels on my 2005 Grand Cherokee (limited) have broken. Pieces around the opening handle have snapped off. The front driver side door is still usable, but the rear driver side door handle is just hanging there. These were not damaged through abuse, instead just routine use. I have not contacted my dealer as I have seen on line that most people have been unsuccessful in getting their warranties to back their claim and I don't have a lot of faith in my local dealership to go out of their way for a warranty claim. Hopefully the NHTSA can make daimler / Chrysler / Jeep / Fiat, whoever step up to the plate and repair what has been pretty much proven to be a design flaw.

Two of the four interior door handles on my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee are broken off and unable to open the door. This is a huge safety problem, if there were an accident it would be impossible for two of the passengers to be able to exit the vehicle. They were not broken from damaging actions, they simple have just broke from everyday use.

On the drivers door and the right passenger door, the plastic of the panel supporting the interior door handle has broken leaving the handle unmounted and useless. Obviously, this is a safety hazard as it takes more time to egress the vehicle in an accident.

The interior door handles, all 4, broke off, at almost the same time. There is a common manufacturers material defect, as the door handle "pocket" is made out a brittle plastic, and they just shattered, or cracked simply by using the interior door handle to exit the vehicle. This is dangerous because in an emergency, one would not be able to exit the vehicle if the door handle breaks off in your hand.

My 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee door handles inside are breaking. They are plastic and seem to be cheaply made. They just start to crack and after a few months the whole handle is gone. Jeep needs to issue a recall or look into this issue before someone cant get out of there vehicle in a emergency.

Re: 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited - interior door panels (where door handle is attached) are cracking and falling away resulting in the door handles no longer being attached to the door. This requires, at times, the door to be opened from outside the vehicle. Chrysler will not replace as the vehicle is out of warranty. The dealership wants $700 + labor (per door) to repair something that is obviously a manufacturing/material defect and safety hazard.

2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee interior door handles are defective. Passenger side door handle has completely broken due to the cheap plastic and the driver side door handle has almost failed as well. I am afraid that in an emergency, I and my passengers might not be able to exit the vehicle. I've been reading online and this appears to be a very common issue, but Chrysler refuses to fix the doors. They want $700 plus to fix each door handle, but you can't even get one because they are on back order.

I have two 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. All the inside door handles are cracking and some are completely destroyed to the point you can not open the door from the inside. Which in the event of an accident, no one would be able to exit the vehicle. It's obviously a problem with the plastic being too thin/brittle. It's all over the internet and there are even youtube videos.
