Interior door handles are defective. The plastic surrounding the interior door handles has become brittle and broken allowing pieces to fall inside the door. This breakage has rendered the door handles inoperative and prevents the door from being opened from the inside. In the event of an accident the occupants of the vehicle would be trapped inside, especially if the power windows also became inoperative.

I am reporting a very big safety concern about 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited V8 hemi interior door handles as it is made of very cheap plastic and I have the four handles ripped off on my vehicle. The only way to open the doors are from outside. In case of emergency or if the car is damaged where I can not bring down the windows I will be stuck inside the car. When I tried to order a replacement parts I found it is out of stock and backordered. It might take few months before I get it. This just show how big is the problem and how many cars are involved.

Drivers side window on 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee on first occasion, May 2007 came out of power window track, wedged between mirror and door frame and the pressure resulted in spider cracked throughout window. This is a hazard due to potential window exploding onto driver while in transit. Also inability to close window during inclement weather could result in traffic crash. Initial repair resulted in window motor also needing to be replaced, motor warranted by Chrysler, but labor was charge to customer. Second occasion September 16,2007, same drivers side door window came out of power window track and wedged between mirror and door frame. This time window did not crack, however, Chrysler dealer would not cover under warranty, charging customer. Story Chrysler Jeep, advised window track parts to repair the molding was back ordered for 3 weeks. Dealership glued old track molding into place so it would not slip out of place causing this power window issue. ( vehicle has 51,031 miles ) additionally, ac/ heat control blower resistor and wiring melted on plug in behind glove compartment of vehicle. This resulted in blower motor only working on high. May be a fire hazard with this vehicle.... again dealer would not warranty work due to 51,031 miles on vehicle this 2.5 years old vehicle has significant safety issues.

2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee potentially dangerous, no escape through windows in cold weather. A ll 4 electric windows will not open in cold weather if minimal amount of water has seeped passed outside window seal. This posses an extremely dangerous situation if evacuation from the vehicle is necessary and the doors are not accessible. This happens to me every day and I just purchased the vehicle one month ago, and living in the northeast where the outside temps are below freezing every day.
