The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving up a hill at 20 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate accompanied by an abnormal noise coming from the vehicle. The contact mentioned that the vehicle would fail to accelerate over 20 mph on several occasions. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the failure was unable to be replicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 82,000, and the current mileage was 84,400.

Esm- electronic shift module issue: P, R, N, D, L all light up simultaneously and the car gets confused as to which gear it should be using. Occasionally, the check engine light comes and goes. After reversing, I put it in drive and it shifts roughly. Randomly the car loses power driving down the street. I had the esm replaced and a month later is showing a U404 code.

Vehicle is 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee and currently has 18300 miles and was purchased new in Jan. 2008. Two failure to accelerate problems have occurred. One on 5/31/10 and another on 04/21/11. In both instances the vehicle would not shift into the next gear and the speed could not exceed 30 to 35 mph even with the accelerator pressed all the way to the floor. The problem occurred without any warning. After the first occurrence the dealer replaced the bezel shift selector. After the second occurrence the dealer could not determine what the problem was. Merging onto a busy freeway where traffic speeds routinely exceed 80mph and not being able to accelerate beyond 30-35 mph is a serious safety problem which could result in injury or death. The same safety concerns apply if the vehicle suddenly decelerates from 70 to 30 mph.

The dash indicators for the gear shift will all illuminate at the same time and the vehicle will go into neutral. This has happened three or four times. The last time it occurred while traveling on the expressway, fortunately I was able to get it back in gear after taping the shift lever several times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they said they replaced a electronic shift module. They kept the old part that was removed.

When putting transmission into drive, the vehicle will not accelerate, this problem first occurred at approx 31,000 miles. The dealership replaced the shift control module. The problem went away. Then again at 62,000 miles, when pulling into traffic, the vehicle started to accelerate, then lost power. Another vehicle had to swerve to miss me, I would have been hit in the drivers door had he not swerved. My vehicle would not move, after cycling the ignition key, the problem went away, took to dealer they told me that the same shift control module needs to be replaced (again) for $750. The vehicle is unsafe to drive and I am shocked that someone has not been killed by this issue as there are hundreds of reports of this on the internet. This is absolutely a manufacturing defect as it has happened on a wide number of identical vehicles with the same repair being performed only to have the problem repeat itself.

Vehicle has lost power while driving. You will be crusing along or pulling out into an intersection and you will loose all power. The engine will not rev, no response at all. After waiting for a perion of time, the vehicle starts going again. This happened to me four times, once in the middle of an intersection, four lanes in all directions, and the vehicle just lost all power. Very scary. I took the vehicle to my local garage, and he told me that this was the second Jeep to do the same thing. The owner had to have the vehicle towed into the garage, and upon arrival, could find nothing wrong. I had to go to an authorized Jeep dealer, and I asked them if they ever heard of this happening, and the reply was, just 3 or 4 times....imaging if this failure happened this often in this small area, how many other vehicles may be having the same problem. The vehicle only had 31000 miles on it, but it was out of warranty for time by 9 months. This is a very dangerous event when you are driving and suddenly loose all power and don't know if or when it is coming back. Chrysler said they do not have a problem. I don't believe them.

When my 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee is in drive, there is a loss of power. The check-engine light comes on, and it's as if the car doesn't know whether it's in drive, neutral, reverse, etc. The dealer says I need a electronic shift module to the tune of $600+. after looking into this, I see it is a problem with many Jeep Grand Cherokee. I am looking into getting Jeep to take responsibility for the faulty part.

Jeep Grand Cherokee 2007, 25,000 miles. Suddenly decelerates and all of the boxes around the gears prnd light up at the same time. I need to pull over, turn the Jeep off, then restart to regain normal running. This could be a tragic problem if the Jeep were to suddenly decelerate on a highway with a full load of children.

In May 2008, 15308 mi on Jeep, slowing for red light, dies, all dash lights com on, no power to steer, no wipers, etc.; starts back on it's own. Took to dealer, no code, no re-act; has happened intermittent since-safety issue in traffic. Now tranny problem, started Sept. 2010, 37,600 mi, code 750, changed solenoid pk in tranny, now code for low pressure send circuit, drives a few miles then goes and stays in 4th gear; 3 months and still not drivable. Need recall for esm and tbs before someone gets killed. Chrysler should stand behind their products & be responsible for design and components. This is very disheartening since both my husband and I own a small biz and are struggling just to keep the doors open and now add the expense of diagnosing Chrysler's problem is just too much! I warranty my work, wear & tear considered, as should Chrysler before someone is hurt or worse- dies trying to get to out of traffic.

  • 38,000 miles
I have a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee with about 38,000 miles on it. It has stalled out several times when trying to accelerate almost resulting in a few accidents. I was told the electronic shift module needs to be replaced, which has been a recurring problem for a large number of Jeep this year-make-model. The part alone costs over $700 and is on national back order for over a month. There absolutely needs to be a recall....this is a serious safety hazard and absolutely ridiculous!!

Grand Cherokee 4WD 6-cyl

The car all of a sudden loses power and all the prnd12 light up. Some days it won't go into drive, then all of a sudden drops into drive. When driving on the highway if you slow down, you can't speed up again, like you have no acceleration. Once in a while the check engine light comes on, then it will go off again, most of the time you have no notice that anything is going to happen, you just lose the ability to accelerate. I see a lot of other people filing complaints on the same issue and have looked online and found many more that are having this issue.

The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle began to decelerate with the illumination of the transmission warning indicator. The contact was able to pull over to the side of the road. The engine was turned off and restarted. The vehicle resumed normally without the warning light illuminated. The failures occurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on three occasions and they were unable to determine the cause of failure. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where the gear shifter module was replaced. The failure recurred two times after the repair. The failure mileage was approximately 29,000.

Grand Cherokee 4WD 6-cyl

  • 30,000 miles
2007/ 30 000 miles. Shifter malfunctions intermittently and causes loss of acceleration by going neutral or sticking in 1st gear unexpectedly. Typically, all the letters are lift prnd simultaneously and check engine light comes on. Stopping and restarting (annoying and dangerous in highway driving) seems to reset the shifter. Dealer says esm part no 52124138ad is responsible for the problem. I believe for safety reasons, there should be a recall on this part before somebody gets killed as a sitting duck in the middle of the highway.
