CarComplaints.com Notes: The fourth generation Grand Cherokee took the relatively trouble-free run of the 3rd-generation and flipped the script.

From 2010 to 2011, complaints about the vehicle not starting increased 10-fold. In fact, the 2011 model year is riddled with engine problems and a defective TIPM might be to blame. The TIPM (Totally Integrated Power Module) distributes power to all the eletrical components in the vehicle, so when it starts acting funny so do numerous other components in the car. Orders for new TIPMs were so abundant that parts became scarce, prompting a class-action lawsuit claiming Chrysler ignored this obvious defect.

By 2012 complaints dropped back down by about 80%. Needless to say, if you see a used 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee on a lot just keep walking.

Grand Cherokee V6

I have taken my car four times to have it serviced, and the problem is never fixed. It wasn't until I received a recall notice that I realized what the problem was. You would think that they would automatically know how to fix the problem. When I am driving my car stalls, and then it accelerates/charges. I panic because traffic is behind and in front of me.

Question: have there been complaints about overheating under the front hood?

Grand Cherokee Limited 3.Olt Diesel

  • Automatic transmission
  • 35,000 miles

Had number of close calls when thinking I had plenty of time to overtake and pick up speed, but finding my foot flat to the floor on accelerator and up to 9 or 10 seconds before it " jumped " forward and responded. Having owned in excess of 30 cars for personal use, I have never experienced anything like this. When it is performing well it is great, but as you don't know just when this problem will occur, it makes it very dangerous.

Both our local dealer and Fiat Chrysler will not recognize the problem. They replaced the Torque Converter and this made it worse and created more issues. The problem is intermittent and there is no way of knowing when it will malfunction.

The best thing is to wreck the car, but I cannot afford it. Will it take road deaths for someone to take notice, or will it be covered up?

The stress this causes when driving is beyond belief as we are quite elderly now.

Grand Cherokee Limited V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 54,000 miles

I have had the dealer look into this a few times already. They can't find anything wrong. The last time they did a software update but it still hesitates terribly. When it shifts from 2nd gear to third gear it loses power and you have to step hard on the gas petal to get it going. Also around corners it nearly stalls out and you step on the gas petal hard and it takes off like a bat out of hell after hesitating very bad. I'm thinking this has something to do with the fuel pump .. the dealer says no.

HELP.

Is anybody else having this problem, let me know what finally fixed it so I can go back to my dealer.

The vehicle is very slow to accelerate with a lag in time from pressing the accelerator until it finally picks up. It will down shift very slowly. Has improved with the ECM flash but is still not very responsive.

Grand Cherokee Laredo 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 36,000 miles

WHILE TRAVELING TO MIAMI THE 2011 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO WENT FROM 65 MPH TO 28 MPH AND WAS JUST ABOUT REAR-ENDED BY A TRACTOR TRAILER. WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHICH FLASHED THE TRANSMISSION TO UPGRADE. THEY GAVE IT BACK TO ME AND SAID IT HAD BEEN FIXED. I DROVE IT HOME AND ABOUT 2 MONTHS LATTER IT HAPPENED AGAIN.

I TOOK IT BACK AND LEFT IT THERE A COUPLE OF DAYS. LATER, WHEN I PICKED IT UP THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY COULD NOT MIMIC OR FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. SINCE THEN VARIOUS PEOPLE HAVE WITNESSED THIS ABOUT MY SUV. ONE MECHANIC HAD THE NERVE OF TELLING MY HUSBAND THAT IT WAS A POWER CURVE. HE DID NOT KNOW MY HUSBAND UNDERSTANDS QUITE A BIT ABOUT AUTOMOTIVE MECHANICS AND HE ARGUED HIS POINT OF VIEW AND LET HIM KNOW THAT HE WAS WRONG. SINCE THEN THE VEHICLE KEEPS DOING THIS AND WE TAKE IT AND GET THE SAME ANSWER. I GUESS SOMEONE HAS TO DIE BEFORE THEY DO ANYTHING ABOUT A PROBLEM.
