On two occasions, two weeks apart, the active braking feature functioned without obvious external cause. In both cases, the active braking system caused the antilock braking system (ABS) to activate, causing the vehicle to stop abruptly. The following information applies to both instances: 1. forward collision warning system (fcw) is on. 2.fcw is set to near 3.active braking feature set to on. 4.vehicle speed approximately 30 mph 5.asphalt four lane road without divider 6.daylight, sunny, temperature about 80 degrees F 7.no vehicles in front or on either side. 8.no vehicles approaching. 9.no obstacles or perturbations on road surface. Second occasion occurred after dealer had installed latest software updates for all components. Dealer has inspected and driven the vehicle. No defect codes were found. Dealer could not duplicate event.

Forward collision warning and mitigation - engaged on a clear day, at freeway speed (55 mph), with no vehicles in front of me or beside me. My car braked hard and the 'brake!' flashed on the dashboard screen. If there had been a car behind me, I would've been rear ended.

My emergency brake light is flashing on my dash board, and it is making a chiming noise when flashing as I drive my Jeep. The main issue other than having it going on and off some time a few time a day sometimes not for a week than a few days in a row is that when I am on an open highway with cruise control on doing 70 mph the cruise control will shut off every time it flashes. I fell the this is a safety issue when your cruise controls shuts down without any warning. The dealer has not corrected this issue. I just got a recall notice to day S27/NHTSA 16V-240 to make sure my vehicle is in park and foot brake on. My foot brakes says it is on at 70 mph when it is not on. This happened a lot today on my trip, but has been going on for over a year

Driving approx. 20 mph in city traffic, car in front stopped suddenly. I tried to apply brakes and the auto-braking system also flashed on dashboard to "brake!" but when I tried to, the brakes were not as responsive as usual. I applied tremendous pressure on the brake pedal (so much so that my foot still hurts over a week later) and the brakes did not react as they typically do, so I hit the car in front of me.

While pulling out onto a busy thoroughfare (cesar chavez St. In san francisco, ca) in my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee overland on 3/31/16, my collision warning system went off, then the vehicle braked hard on its own via the brake assist system, engaging the anti-lock brake system, and bringing me to a stop in the middle of this busy road. However there was nothing/no one in front of me. This could very well have caused me to be T-boned or rear-ended with my 8 month old baby in the car. This was extremely scary and unexceptable! after describing the issue to my mother, she sent me an article from the wall street journal regarding this issue on 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Clearly this is a more widespread issue than just a fluke affecting my vehicle.

Forward collision warning (fcw) occasionally comes on without reason in city traffic, interstates, and country roads (no traffic or obstructions nearby) and at various speeds causing a "brake" warning signal and sometimes, not always, actually causing the vehicle to brake. Related to the fcw problem is a warning signal that frequently appears that indicates the adaptive cruise control/fcw are unavailable. Vehicle has been in shop numerous times and except for one time that the dealership found a part missing, the dealership continues to indicate they cannot duplicate the problem. The problem remains on-going and has not been resolved. The date of occurance below is the most recent event with the "brake" warning.

We have had 4 incidents of unintended braking (PE15-021) from the collision control system. Extreme autonomous braking when nothing was in the way. Additionally, we had one case of unintended acceleration in low speed (less than 10 mph) stop & go commuter traffic resulting in a rear end crash with damage to our Jeep and the vehicle in front of us and the next vehicle in front of them (3 vehicles total). Jeep accelerated hard on its own without pressing the gas pedal.

Car braking system activated automatically on its own on multiple occasions, anti-collision warning system is not turned on. Latest incident occurred on December 26, 2015, driving 45 mph on a highway with no traffic or obstacles around the word "brake" appeared on dashboard in red and brakes were suddenly engaged. Incident before was driving 60 mph on the interstate and the brakes engaged again with the word "brake" flashing on dash again anti collision system was not on.

The collision avoidance system activates and slams on the brakes without cause while traveling forward which is startling and dangerous because I have been nearly rear ended by another driver for braking without cause. When parking the gear selector feels like it is in park it is actually in reverse or neutral. Brakes squeak and were wearing groves into rotors when vehicle was brand new. Also the front bumper has never fit correctly as well as the fender moldings peeling off. Very sad for a $55,000 vehicle.

Last night, I was driving at normal speed down the road and person ahead of me braked gradually to make a turn. I began to softly brake. I had a generous amount of space between me and the car ahead of me - at least 5-6 car lengths. The forward collision warning system activated and slammed on the brakes, causing the car behind me to nearly rear-end me. The system should not have activated as there was no reasonable threat of collision. This is not the first time this has happened and I understand the NHTSA is investigating this system so I decided to file a complaint in order to assist the investigation. The system works well when it needs to but it has false positives often. It is somewhat terrifying when your car just decides to slam on the brakes with no cause and there is a legitimate cause for concern when it does. Other drivers behind me may be unprepared to stop and could cause a crash.

When I apply the brakes the front end shakes pretty badly. I also have an issue when I excellerate moderately the vehicle seems to take off leaving me feeling out of control and having to take my foot off the gas and watching the RPM hit 6000. I have also had issues with the transmission and a total of 5 recalls. I have had time in court trying to fight it using the lemon law but lost because of not having an attorney and a transmission specialist I couldn't afford either. I notice my problems at 1900 miles but I lost because they said I used it for commercial use which I don't because I don't have it registered as a commercial vehicle I just drive a lot for work at the time. This vehicle has caused me loads of stress since I bought it and feel very unsafe driving my kids around. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated I'm at my wits end. I bought my Jeep early in 2013 so I feel its one of the first Jeep off the assembly line with lots of issues. Thanks

My car is equipped with a forward collision warning that will signal you when you are too close to a vehicle and automatically engages the brake if a collision is imminent. The car has 3 times now signaled and engaged the brakes when there were no vehicles near me. The first two times this happened I was driving on the freeway going approximately 65 mph with no cars in my visible sight and the signal alarmed and then the car braked on it's own. This again happened yesterday 6/29/15 while I was turning left through an intersection with a green arrow and the vehicle braked while I was accelerating. A car behind me had to hit their brakes and swerve to avoid rear ending me. Each time I bring the vehicle to the dealership they tell me that they can't fix a problem that they can't replicate.

The front rotors and the rear rotors turned black while operating the vehicle under normal highway driving conditions. The front and rear brakes pads are not worn where they required replacement. The rotors appear to be defective. I saved the rotors for inspection if you so desire to inspect them. Having been a automotive technichian in the past and a mechanic on nyc taxi cabs I have never witnesses this kind of wear and tear on a rotor. Having had fleets of police vehicles I have never seen a rotor wear like this either. Even police vehicles having been in pursuits have not worn out like this.
