DEF system problems, No other options!! "car won't Start in 180 miles" take it to a dealer ( who can't get the needed part)!

Jeep should have a few people working on a solution to this BIG problem. They advertise a "Go anywhere" vehicle... that's fine if you want to just leave it there! But if you want to come back you better take another car with you. If Jeep can't come up with a long term fix, maybe, a short term while your working on a long term.

broken def injector

Me, my wife and our newborn daughter were taking our first family Thanksgiving vacation. We’re about 20 miles from our destination, we hit a puddle (yeah, a puddle in our Jeep) and suddenly “SERVICE DEF - See Dealer” pops onto the screen. My wife flipped open the owners manual and explained that if we don’t get to a dealer in 150 miles, the car will not restart. We were 300 miles from home.

I called my dealer and Chrysler customer service. Both advised that the car would go into Limp Mode within 150 miles if we attempted to drive back home. We searched around and found a dealer 40 minutes from where we were staying. We drop the car off on the morning (Friday) after Thanksgiving. They called me at 4PM that afternoon and told me that we need a new DEF line and it wouldn’t be available for another week. I called Chrysler and after talking with three different unhelpful representatives, they put me thorough to the “Chrysler Customer Satisfaction Department.” Unfortunately, they don’t work weekends so there was nothing that could be done until the following Monday morning.

Since I had to go to work that Monday, I rented a car and we drove home. After 11 days Jeep flat bedded my car back and now I'm basically scared to drive it anywhere....

Same problem as others; message on the dashboard informs you that you have a certain amount of miles before the car shuts down and will not restart. Called the dealer Monday morning and informed him of the message and was told to bring it in at 11. I bring it in at 11 and was told that there's nothing they can do, their diesel guy is not in today. Feck! rescheduled for the next day, and got a call a few hours later that the DEF injector is broken and that it is not covered under warranty...they said I must have hit something. I don't recall hitting anything...I asked about the injector location, and he said, "its in a vulnerable spot".

The car is in the shop now waiting for a new part. I will be talking to the manager, because, if the injector is mounted in a bad spot, I think this should be a warranty item.

I will update this post when I get the car back.

Jeep was in the shop for 10 days waiting on parts. Jeep won't admit this is a problem. I expect to have the same problem again. Working on a dealer buyback.

Grand Cherokee Limited V6 Diesel

Again, same issue as last time, 4 months later another DEF injector broken , another trip to the dealer, over a week so far waiting for the part ( Says Thursday 28th or Friday 29th August ) yeah right well see ....Diesel Exhaust Fluid ( DEF ) is corrosive so there are really only two options, make the injector from Stainless steel $$$ or plastic ....OEM's, if your going to use plastic protect it, have zero load bearing on the injector and did I say protect it??? .... Come on guys this is a royal PITA..........

(brand new Jeep Grand Cherokee eco-diesel , the Diesel Exhaust Fluid ( DEF ) injector is made of plastic and is located in a vulnerable position just behind the RHS front wheel . there is no guard or protector installed . Even with Jeeps off road protection package the injectors is still unprotected , this is absolutely appalling that something so sensitive of the emissions system has nothing protecting it .It takes very little for the injector to be damaged , splash for a puddle , ice and snow build up , road debris strike ... once the injector breaks the EVIC will give the driver 200 miles and then a no start situation will ensue... this is to make sure that the Jeep meets to tier 4 emissions . Only solution replace the injector with same as part, problem is parts are difficult to get, long wait time, 3 weeks .....)
