The driver side seatbelt does not retract. It has to be physically pushed back into the device so extra seatbelt is not hanging out. If one were to stop, the locking mechanism would have seatbelt slack in it so it wouldn-??t restrain the driver immediately.

Driver's seatbelt is loose and won't retract. I tried to wash it, but it still hangs down to where it will get caught in the door when closing. This is a major safety issue in that my seatbelt is not snug against my body and would not protect me in an accident. I have seen numerous other complaints online about this same issue. Jeep is saying I will have to pay to have it diagnosed and repaired since it's out of warranty. Seat belts are required by law, but mine doesn't work!

There is an extended recall regarding the driver and passenger seatbelts in 2014-2015 Dodge Durangos and 2014-2015 Jeep Grand Cherokees, number D-21-04. My driver seatbelt retracts very slowly and the passenger seatbelt does not retract at all without manual manipulation. Because of this safety issue I brought my Jeep Grand Cherokee into a dealership in January 2023. At the time I was told parts (X90) were not available yet. I have since called monthly because my car at this point is unsafe to drive with passengers without a repair. Today (June 2023) I was told that there is an indefinite backorder and there is no estimated remedy for the part. The service technician from the dealership indicated that the part is likely not being manufactured anymore. He indicated that my only option was to either drive an unsafe vehicle, stop driving it, or sell it. I was informed that Chrysler would likely not be manufacturing a fix for another 6 months to one year.

What component: The piece of plastic trim that helps guide the seatbelt into the wall of the car has cracked and is preventing the seatbelt from retracting. Safety Risk: This prevents the seatbelt from retracting while driving the car (if it becomes loose it stays loose and therefore doesn't restrain the driver.) Inspection: The dealer said this is not covered under warranty or recall. (I called and described the problem to them.) This just started suddenly with no warning. My car has about 110,000 miles and this happened recently.

The car just stalled in the middle of the road on a busy street with the information 4wd drive temporarily unavailable till service. There was no prior warning, the car has around 80K miles and has been taken care of regularly with no outsanding calls or other maintenance. Checking the resources available, the reliability on this car seems pretty low with many know transmission issues. I had the car towed to the dealer and they are wanting to fix 1. valve body and connector to pan, 2. dtcm and broken engine and trans mount. A few weeks back the drivers side seat belt stopped retracting (the dealer said they would fix that). The car just stalling with no prior notification or issues added to which the car belt retracting happened on a busy street and very well could have happened in the freeway causing safety and security issues for this and other vehicles on the road. There are innumerable cases of transmissions reports and issues for this vehicle, most of those fixed earlier on during the warranty might just seemed to happened a little bit later. It is a disaster waiting to happen with other vehicle owners if not addressed proactively in my humble opinion, I was relatively lucky to have happened without an incident but it could have been worse. Please need your help in addressing this safety issue asap.

The Seat Belt would not retract, and it also would not tighten around the chest area of passengers. The belt would just lay on your lap. It was a safety hazard because if there would have been into a accident, it would not have prevented the passenger from going through the windshield.

There is a known issue with the seat belt frame latching unit part #1vl07dx9ag for the driver and the front passenger seats. This issue prompted Jeep to provide an extended warranty to fix faulty units. The bigger problem here is, the parts are back ordered for weeks and months. As this is a seat belt operational issue, and a major safety defect, this should be a recall and not a warranty item. I have been waiting since July 20 for the part to be installed. My front seat belts, both sides, do not tighten or retract and I risk serious injury in the event of a collision. Jeep must be held responsible to provide the parts to all dealerships as a backstock item, given that this is (in the words of my Jeep Service Center) not a matter of if but when the part fails. NHTSA should convert the warranty status to recall, similar to the recent recalls on other vehicles having seat belt issues.

Seat belts don-€™t retract because of broken plastic piece in the retractable seat belt system. I researched and found there was no recall but rather a extension of the warranty to fix the defect. I made an appointment on June 13, 2022 at a San Diego Jeep dealer and they confirmed the seat belts were malfunctioning and said they didn-€™t have the parts but they would arrive by July 6. I called July 6th and they said they didn-€™t have parts until July 25th. I called still no parts, told me August 20th, still no parts. Now told me to call September 26th 2022 to see if parts will arrive. This is dangerous. I-€™ve told them numerous times. My seat belt is Hanging loose while I drive. If I get in an accident I-€™m afraid it-€™ll do more harm than good. Is there something you can do to help me? Thank you

With less than 16,000 miles, the driver side seat belt just stopped recoiling. Wife stated one day when she got back from running errands, she unbuckled the seat belt after driving and heard a click noise and the seat belt did not retract. Ever since then the seat does not retrack and whenever someone drives the car, they need to ensure the seat belt is placed within the car so it does not get caught in the door being closed. This will only work for so long until it gets caught in the door before the belt gets frayed and is degraded.

Jeep customers were not alerted to the seat belt plastic D ring potentially having visible stress/fatigue cracks and breaking overtime. When broken, the D ring prevents the seat belt from functioning correctly by pinching the seat belt and causing it not retract. Reference TSB 23-013-21. This is a preventable issue, but Jeep customers need to know to have their car visually inspected. This was reported already to the NHTSA but closed due to Jeep offering a warranty extension. This solution requires the seat belt to actually break so the customer can be allerted to the issue and have the seatbelt replaced. In my case, my driver seat belt no longer retracts and my passenger side has significant visible stress cracks in the D ring. I notified my Jeep dealer of the issue and the TSB. My first appointment was only for Jeep to confirm the problem, which they did and returned my car to me stating they don-€™t have the replacement parts which are on backorder with no expected arrival date. I also notified Jeep corporate of this issue in detail. It has been over a month and I must continue to drive my vehicle as is, as the replacement parts are not available. I recommend a recall for Jeep owners to have their seatbelts visually inspected for cracks so the defective parts can be replaced before they actually break and cause a safety issue.
