While on a road trip my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland transmission began to overheat. I saw a warning sign on the dash. This came from no where and there was no driving conditions that would prompt this to occur. Normal high way driving at around 75-80mph. Chrysler should look into this problem and address it. These complaints are becoming ridiculous.

Had issues with transmission changed from first to second, second to third, and third to fourth gears. The issue gets progressively worse as you drive the car. It is somewhat masked by cold weather until driven a bit. Both the service manager at the local Jeep dealer and the service technician have experience the issue on multiple occasions. Drive shaft and rear differential were both replaced with no improvement. Vehicle has now been out of commission for upwards of 3 weeks and the dealer still has zero clue what to even fix. I have already asked about a new transmission, but they are adamant the sound and feeling they get are from the rear of the vehicle, so we shall see what they replace next. I will gladly update once the issue is corrected.

2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO WITH THE 8SPEED TRANSMISSION STARTED SLIPPING FROM LOWERS GEARS 1-2 AND ALSO 2-1 DOWNSHIFT. TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALER THEY HAD IT FOR ABOUT 3 WEEKS AND ALL THEY PERFORM WAS A TRANSMISSION RELEARN. SO I PICK IT UP AND THEN DROVE IT ABOUT 200 MILES AND FOUND OUT THE PROBLEM WAS STILL THERE.

SO I TOOK IT BACK IN TO THE DEALER AS PER CHRYSLER. CASE MANAGER ADVISE TEST DROVE VEHICLE WITH SERVICE SHOP MANAGER SO HE WOULD SEE THE PROBLEM. IN WHICH HE DID SEE THE ISSUE AND SAID WILL TRY TO DO MY BEST TO FIX IT. THEN YESTERDAY 9-29-2015 CHRYSLER CASE MANAGER CALL ME AND SAID DEALER HAD ORDER A NEW TRANSMISSION FOR MY JEEP. SO UP TO TODAY I DO NOT HAVE AN UPDATE BUT I WILL AS SOON AS I GET MY JEEP BACK.

Grand Cherokee Summit 3.6L V6

My wonderful Jeep has developed a terrible shifting problem at around 4800 km. More specifically, it would shift really bad between 2-3, 3-4 and sometimes and to a much lesser extent, the 4-5 shift. It happens when the car has been allowed to cool down (such as overnight or been off for 3-4 hours.

I've been monitoring the temperature of the transmission and it improves remarkably after the temperature reaches 48C or above. When the transmission temperature is between 48 and 86oC (which is the typically temperature range for me), the above mentioned shifts still feel a bit funny (like the vehicle slows down a bit while shifting) compared to the butter smooth not even noticeable shifting before this issue started 5 weeks ago. Below this temperature (between 15C and 48C), the rpms surge between the shifts when its on the colder end, then between 35 and 47C, the shifting turns into a harsh bumping. From slipping to bumping to improved shifting. The problem first started off with the 2-3 being bad, then the 3-4, and I'm starting to feel the 4-5.

The dealer (whom have been very helpful and have no complaints against) has performed the latest TSB flash dated Jan 2015 (this improved the noticeable 2-1 shift which almost gone but still feel every once in a while) and done the relearn twice (by deleting the memory and bringing the clutch fill volumes to at least 10 before handing it over to me). Overall this didn't help with the 2-3, 3-4 and less so the 4-5. Been driving like this over the past 2800 km and every morning (or every time its been off for at least 3 hours) its the same thing. At this point, its under investigation as to what to do next.

Update from Jul 10, 2015: After a few reflashes/relearns, the dealer changed the valve body at about 8400 km. Drove it until 16,300 km and the situation improved but it was not like it was before the first issue transmission issue arised. Now, at 16,300 my transmission has been replaced and its back to being super smooth. I hope this is the last of it because I really like this vehicle.

Grand Cherokee Laredo 3.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 12,000 miles

I bought the car brand new in January of 2014 and never had any problems with the car until there was about 12,000 miles on the car in October of 2014. Around the first of October 2014, my car started having major transmission problems. I first noticed it when the car was having problems shifting from first to second gear and nothing else. After noticing the problem, I would have friends and family in the car and they would ask what was wrong and I would just say I'm not sure.

I had taken it to the dealership the following day and wanted to know why the car transmission was slipping as it was a new car and bought it from the same dealership. They said they needed to do a relearn or a re-flash on the car. They said they had fixed the problem but I noticed it again the next morning so I took it back. They told me it takes a couple days for it to get set with the car. I knew no different so I went home and did my research. The following day the transmission was worse and was slipping from 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th. I immediately took it to the dealership and they wanted to do another re-flash. It did not work once again. The transmission slipping kept getting worse. I took it back to the dealership and wanted to know what was going on and they wanted me to leave it overnight so they could drive it... They said they NEVER felt anything.

EVERY morning I get in the car and drive it I feel the awful rough shifting from 1st - 4th gear. At this point I don't know what to do. I have also recently noticed on occasional mornings the car sometimes DOES NOT shift into 4th gear. Sometime it just holds 3rd gear... At this point, I've been to the dealership 4 times with no fix....
