Huge win for car owners! All TSBs to be made public. The Center for Auto Safety just made the NHTSA (US Government) make public the full text of all TSBs from now on. They are the same organization that has petitioned the NHTSA & filed lawsuits to protect car owners over exploding gas tanks & other major safety issues. Whenever you drive in your car, you are safer thanks in part to a lot of work over the years by this small but very effective consumer advocacy group.

The contact owns a 2003 Jeep Liberty. The contact received recall notice number 03V460000 (suspension:front:control arm:lower ball joint) in September of 2006. He stated that the noise coming from the failure caused distress to his family, which escalated into arguments. He further stated that the noise level of the ball joints was unbearable. He notified a local and national Jeep dealer, but they have not responded to any of his calls. The recall was never repaired due to the unavailability of parts. The lengthy waiting list placed him three months behind from his original appointment date. The vehicle has since been sold. The failure speed was unknown. The failure and current mileages were 60,000.

Back in March, I received a recall notice from daimler Chrysler regarding the lower ball joints in my Jeep. Steering can fail causing a crash. I called my local dealer and was told I was 80th on their waiting list. I called in may and was told they would get to me sometime in July!! today is August 1 and my recall is still not fixed. They blame the Jeep Corp for not providing enough parts to fix all the problems.

I received a recall notice for my 2003 Jeep Liberty (safety recall F23) late last year and called the nearest dealer in flemington in December 2006 to schedule an appointment to have it repaired. They advised that there was a waiting list as they only received a few kits per week and that they would call when they could schedule an appointment for me. It is now May 20th and still no phone call. Although the defect from the recall notice seem serious, I suppose it must not be since it's almost 6 months later and they still have not called. I will be calling the flemington Jeep dealer again this week to check the status and if they cannot help, I will call another dealer to see if this is something they will be able to address.

Feb 222007

Liberty 6-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 55,000 miles
- the contact owns a 2003 Jeep Liberty which had been recalled. A crash occurred as a result of the faulty ball joint on the vehicle. On February 22, 2007 the contact was driving at 30 mph on the highway, it was a cloudy but dry day and while exiting the highway the steering wheel became loose, it began to move left to right and the vehicle made a sharp left turn crossing into the left lane, ultimately striking the left guard rail on the ramp. The contact took the vehicle to the repair shop that Chrysler recommended. An investigator for Chrysler inspected the vehicle and reported that the vehicle did not have a loose ball joint, but the contact believed it was. The current and failure mileage were both 55,000. Consumer states she believes that a loss of lubrication which lead to corrosion, accelerated wear and separation from the steering knuckle in which resulted in the loss of Jeep directional control. Consumer also states known fact of defect in 2002-2006 around front suspension lower ball joint./23/07tr
