Huge win for car owners! All TSBs to be made public. The Center for Auto Safety just made the NHTSA (US Government) make public the full text of all TSBs from now on. They are the same organization that has petitioned the NHTSA & filed lawsuits to protect car owners over exploding gas tanks & other major safety issues. Whenever you drive in your car, you are safer thanks in part to a lot of work over the years by this small but very effective consumer advocacy group.

Please take a moment & say thank you by donating $5 or whatever you can to the Center for Auto Safety.

I have had numerous issues with this vehicle. I have had to replace the cooling fan, three window motors, the alternator, head gaskets, the fuel pump sensor is broken, the oil sensor is broken, when I pump gas it spills out, the radiator, the electrical system on both the left and right side. The tail lights don't work properly and I have replaced both the lights and fuses as well as the sockets numerous times. These are just the things I can think of off the top of my head. I've spent thousands of dollars, literally, on this car. I feel like it's a death trap waiting to happen and can't wait until I am able to purchase something else, it won't be a Jeep product. Jeep doesn't care if you have numerous issues with their product. When I first started having issues I called the dealership I purchased from to talk to my salesman and I was asked what my mileage was. I was right around 48,000 miles, I was put off numerous times and told he would be who I would need to deal with. After I hit the 50,000 mark they informed me he had been murdered and I was not out of warranty. Each passing day seems to bring new problems with this vehicle. I just thought someone should finally know. I'm also not counting the recalls in on my list of issues.

Every time my wife or I fill up the gas tank, gas sprays everywhere as the auto-shut-off does not work. The gas tank over-fills every single time and gas spews everywhere, getting on me, down the side of my Jeep, and all over the ground. This is a major hazard and could ultimately end up in an explosion. To act as additional support, the fact that gas sprays everywhere is against the law that can be found on the stickers at every gas station gas pump for how to "operate" the gas pump and how to "fill-up" correctly. There needs to be a recall immediately as I know there are many other people who experience this same issue. Also, the only reason why I stated the problem began at 147,000 miles is because that was the mileage on the vehicle when I purchased it used.

When ever I fuel this vehicle up fuel spills out wither in an automatic shutoff mode (there's a lot that spills like this) or doing it manually as slowly as pump will allow. I am fearful of a fire or explosion during this process. I looked up on line and in some of the Jeep forums this seems to a thing the 2005 Jeep Liberty does. On one of the forums www.jeepforum.com/forum/F28/2005-Liberty-spills-gas-1184293/ 03-20-2011, 02:08 pm the poster flyordie says "Jeep has issued a silent recall on this problem. Just so you all know. ***** and moan enough at the dealership and they will fix it on their dime." Why is it silent" why don't they just issue the recall and save some one or their father or mother or kid fro being killed when its preventable" I chatted with an online rep from Jeep a [xxx] and she gave me a complaint number [xxx]: the case number is [xxx]. this was at their live chat room on owner connect (mopar). At https://mopar.custhelp.com/app/mopar/chat_landing/first_name/[xxx]/last_name/broach/email/standho%40sbcglobal.net/request_source/8 I was told that no one would be contacting me from Jeep, all complaints are handled internally. Every time I put fuel in my Liberty, gas sprays everywhere. It does this every time I start fueling. It also does it when the tank is full. I lose a least 1/2 gallon every time I fill up. The dealership says nothing is wrong with it. If there's nothing wrong, how do I get covered in gas every time I put fuel in? it's very frustrating. I did get a recall N46 for the fuel tank, but their way of fixing it, is to put on a trailer hitch. That does nothing to fix the overflow issue.

  • 159,800 miles
At approx 8:00 on the morning of 2/16/15 my 2005 Jeep Liberty, 3.8L V-6 with automatic transmission began to accelerate out of control while braking for a stop sign. The engine was cold, I had just started it and the temperature was in the mid to upper 50S. I was traveling about 27 mph, and began to slow for the stop. At about 10-15 mph, I noticed the car was no longer slowing down. It seemed as though the brakes stopped working. At the same time, the engine briefly revved on its own. This made the car accelerate. I could not stop at the stop sign and the car accelerated into 50 mph cross traffic. I made a hard right turn to bring the car next to the curb, allowing room for traffic to go by. At the same time, I put the transmission into neutral and that allowed the car to stop. I then put the car into park and revved the engine. It seemed to respond normally at that point (engine would return to idle immediately after taking my foot off the gas). After shifting between part to drive, then reverse, etc. Several times, it still seemed to work normally so I continued to work with no further problems. It seemed as though while coming to a stop, the transmission did not down shift or disengage. As the engine rpms were reduced below idle due to the car slowing, the computer control system tried to bring the engine speed back up, causing it to accelerate. A couple of facts - the car has approx. 159,800 miles on the odometer. I purchased it used a few months ago and have put 13,000 miles on it. When I purchased it I had it examined by a mechanic and had all the hoses, belts, etc. Replaced. I've had the oil changed at about 5,000 mile intervals. I drive with one foot only, I don't use separate feet for the gas and the brake. The floor mat was not moved before or after this incident, and is not close to the gas pedal. Check engine light did not come on.
