CarComplaints.com Notes: On August 16th, 2012 Jeep stopped production of the the Jeep Liberty, marking the end of a troublesome journey for the SUV.

All in all, the 2012 Liberty actually excels off-road, but since 99% of drivers never take this thing off pavement, that becomes somewhat of a moot point. The Liberty suffers from the worst fuel economy in its class (16/22 MPG) and offers an uncomfortable ride with suspect braking ability.

Have to have my heating system flushed each year. The mechanic said this happens to a LOT of jeeps he services.

The problem has been: Low heat from left center vent and no heat from other vents. This has happened many times including 1000 mi. after purchasing new. First time dealer covered system flush. Second time, dealer replaced heater core. Third time quoted $200.00 cost for system flush so I decided to hook up a garden nose and flushed the heater core (only) myself. Flushed both directions 5 times that removed gunk (soft cork looking stuff, sand looking stuff, small piece of metal looking thing). Heater blows hot after that. I have had to flush the heater several times over the years. The car has 92,000 mi. on it and is 4 years old. I have read similar problems from other Liberty AND Wrangler owners. Jeep does rhyme with Jeep (except for cost).

Heater only blows warm to cool air; when on Panel setting, air was warmer from the left center vent-cooler on the right. Took it to selling dealer 1 month after purchase (new 11-2012). Dealer had to flush entire cooling system and heater worked fine after that. Next year (Nov. 2013) same problem with heater. Dealer replaced heater core. Heater worked fine.

Next year (Fall 2014) same problem with the heater. Dealer said car needed a cooling system flush, $300, not covered by factory or extended warranty. Took it to local mechanical who flushed the system for $100.00 (still not covered by warranty). Worked for a week or so. I finally unhooked the heater hoses and flush those with a garden hose, $0 and maybe $1.00 worth of my water. Heater works fine now. Sludge accumulation in the heater hose seams to be a problem in these Liberty's. No one seems to know why, but it is a real pain in the ass to keep the heat on.

We have had the vehicle into the dealer where we purchased it on multiple occasions, each time they stated that there was nothing wrong with the heat issue. The heat will not work even though the temp gauge is straight up or the engine is heated up, whichever you prefer. When the heat is turned on after the vehicle is warmed up, it blows cold air. If you attempt to defrost the windshield, then you freeze your feet, as the floor will only blow cold and vise versa. The mechanics say that the air coming out of the vents is 140 degrees, maybe when you are not driving it down the road in cold temperatures and it is sitting in the service bay!

My wife will take my car in the winter as there is no heat in the Liberty. We are tired of this situation and will be dumping this vehicle and will stay away from Jeeps, as there never seems to be a problem when we take it to the dealer. Additionally, when we initially took this vehicle in for this issue, there was another individual that was having the same issue, but opted to dump her Liberty and get a different vehicle that day! Hind sight is twenty twenty!
