Patriot 4door Sport Utility 24L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 114,117 miles

Drove the car from Richmond VA to Arlington, no problem. After about 6 hours I left Arlington heading back to Richmond. Had ac on and traffic was heavy. The trip is 116 miles each way. With 45 miles left to go the transmission light comes on. Then we hear a loud whining sound. It gets louder as we go. Then the car slows down to 45 mph..on the interstate in the middle of the day! With all of that traffic. Terrifying to say the least.

I called Carmax to get a appointment to bring the car to them. I have a warranty and this is the way you have to do it. They gave me a appointment 5 days away. Then they offered me the transmissions shop number. They told me not to drive it anymore and bring it to them on the next morning. How do I get home without a car?? I stayed at the rest stop for a hour then I traveled home in the right lane with the flashers on.

Now it is in the shop but because they cant duplicate the issue so they want to replace a cracked radiator cap and return the car to me.

This happened to me with this car on May 2, 2017 also. It also happened April 2016 spring break coming back from Myrtle beach . So I have a car I cant take out side of the city now???

Update from Sep 7, 2017: transmission shop added a fan to the transmission. I will test it this weekend, going out of town

Patriot Limited 2.4L

  • CVT transmission
  • 125,000 miles

Bought jeep to have a reliable transportation to not have to worry about breaking down. Went to a doctor's appointment in Syracuse, it drove fine up, but on the way home it started whining noise in transmission. The piece of sh*t would not go over 50 and it would not even rev when in neutral. If i let it cool for a while i could start it and it would go until the junk got hot. Then the piece of sh*t would not go no more, had to let it sit and the piece of sh*t would go again, then quit. This is the worst vehicle I have ever owned. I will never buy a Chrysler vehicle ever again. They are a junk piece of sh*t.

I had my Jeep Patriot for seven months then the noise started. Took back to dealer and was told that it was the alternator so I got that fixed and was still hearing the loud whining noise. So took back to dealer again, this time they said it was the transfer case but now after all of those repairs it's the damn Transmission. I got hood winked by the dealer because that's when I learned that I was no longer under warranty. NEVER BUY A CAR IN WOOSTER OHIO ON CLEVELAND RD BESIDE FARMER BOY RESTAURANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We were the second owners of the 2009 Jeep Patriot and we were so excited to have a JEEP. Well, we are now ready trade it in. HATE IT!!!!

My daughter was drive out of town with the whining started in June of 2015. When she had gotten home she told me the Jeep was whining the whole 8 hour drive to her destination and the whole 8 hours back home.

Took it into my mechanic and let them look at it for the day. They call me back that afternoon and I fell out of my chair. They said the transmission was going bad. They said they were unsure if they could find an new transmission so the might have to rebuild one. They called everywhere in our area. Finally Jasper transmission said they could get a new transmission for the Jeep at a wonderful cost of $5000. Wow I cried like a baby. We do have a warranty of 3 years or 10,000 miles. We are now to scared to drive it out of town for fear of problems. I also called Chrysler and they said too bad, so said, nothing we can do for you.

Never would I expect a JEEP to have to get a new transmission with less than 60,000 miles and only 2 owners.

WE WILL NEVER BY A JEEP PRODUCT AGAIN. UGH

Purchased the 2009 Jeep Patriot 2WD off the dealers lot brand new. Patriot

  • Automatic transmission

This problem was reported 5 times and each time the dealers service dept. either (1) stated they saw no problem or (2) identified incorrect causes that cost me $$$. Although the problems were reported during the warranty period and although the transmission issues on this vehicle are referenced as a recall item, I was charged $500.!!!!!!!!!!!
