I purchased a brand new 2005 Jeep Wrangler Sport 4.0 6 cyl. from the dealer in June of 2005. By November of 2005 I began to notice a loud annoying tapping coming from the engine. In the beginning, this problem only presented when cold started on cool days. I took my Jeep into the dealer several times to address the problem. I even left it overnight to allow for cold morning start diagnosis. Dealer stated they "could not duplicate the problem", even when I pointed it out to a mechanic. I was told it was "nothing". I was very distressed over having a brand new vehicle with a clear engine problem the dealer refuse to acknowledge!

This problem has remained persistent throughout the life of the vehicle, only getting much worse with age. Now I get lifter noise even on warm days and the noise is so persistent now, that it often does not go away throughout my entire drive. In the beginning it was only noticeable until the engine reached full warmth.

I might go crazy if this problem cannot be resolved! Now, I can guarantee myself a headache, caused by the loud persistent lifter noise, each time I drive my Jeep! I once loved my Jeep, now loath it because of the slew of problems. If only I had not "upgraded" (which in retrospect, due to problems, was a huge downgrade) to a newer model year, an instead kept my 1998 Jeep Wrangle Sport that did not have a single problem!
