I have heard of others that have had this issue with fueling. It doesn't matter how slow you fill, the fuel just boils out of the filler neck every time I fill. The gas spills all over the Jeep and onto the ground, and if you are not careful, it will spill onto your clothes.

As with the many other TJ Jeep owners complaining about fuel pouring out of the fuel filler, it happened to me.

I Googled it, and found you can purchase a GM Filler hose (Part # 15131046) which has the flapper in it, this is how GM fixed the problem in some of their vehicles that were doing the same thing.....good on GM for doing that for their customers, bad service by Jeep for not doing it for their customers!

Install that and the burping of fuel will stop, there is also a good video on Youtube that shows this repair, thank you Youtube....and no thanks to you Jeep!

Fix your problem Fiat Chrysler! Why do I need to describe my problem in more detail? It sprays fuel all over the place when filling, it's a common thing with these I am finding out.

Every time I need to get gas for this Wrangler fuel shoots out the opening and all over the side of vehicle, the fender flare and onto the ground requiring a fuel spill cleanup kit. This problem was once repaired by dealer, but has occurred within 4000 miles after initial repair. By then vehicle warranty had expired and dealership said it would cost $1000 for fix again, but using the exact same parts that failed both times. This would only cause the spilling of gasoline again within a short time. So why replace faulty parts with faulty parts?

Chrysler refuses to repair this problem with a new tank or fuel filler neck and hoses, unless those same faulty parts are used. I am afraid one day that an explosion could occur while filling the vehicles fuel tank. I ask for a new tank designed to avoid this problem as soon as possible or better yet repair it like NOW!!

Every fill-up spits fuel on my clothes and onto the ground. I would say it's about 10 ounces of fuel each fill up where the pump does not cut off resulting in fuel spill.

Bought as a new vehicle. The fuel spillage (not a drop, not a trickle, but a full-on explosion {pun intended} of fuel} has been occurring for years. I am fed up and am more than a little PO'd that Chrysler/Jeep has not come to the conclusion this is a safety issue and jumped on it to get it fixed - before someone does a spot-on impression of Michael Jackson's Pepsi commercial.

It has ruined a couple pairs of shoes. It has caused me to be late to work. Most of all, it is not unreasonable to expect that a vehicle built in the 21st century would be free of these simple design flaws. I would expect a brand as established as Jeep would take whatever steps necessary to remedy this problem. Please take the time to do right by your customers. Do this not only for me but for all the other customers out there that expect better.

Wrangler X 4.0L

  • Manual transmission
  • 35,000 miles

This is a really annoying and dangerous problem. I of course was told by the dealership that it may be the gas pump which was not shutting off on time. I have since filled up at every gas station in my area and video taped the 'splash back' happening 100% of the time. I could get it repaired through Chrysler for upwards of $300.00 or I could drop the tank and do it myself. For now I am just not filling the Jeep up at the pump. I fill it half way and that is it otherwise I get a gas shower. POOR!

JEEP / CHRYSLER REFUSES TO PAY TO FIX THIS DANGEROUS PROBLEM. THIS EXACT SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED WITH MY WIFE'S 07 CHRYSLER ASPEN. THEY FINALLY RECALLED IT AND FIXED THE PROBLEM. I'M WORRIED ABOUT THE STATIC ELECTRICITY SETTING A PERSON ON FIRE. THE GAS EXPLODES OUT OF THE FILLER NECK AND DOUSES YOU, YOUR VEHICLE AND THE GROUND. I WONDER HOW MANY FIRES THIS HAS CAUSED AND IF ANYONE HAS BEEN BURNED ALIVE YET. FIX YOUR PROBLEM JEEP!

I've complained at the jeep dealer. They tell me that there is no recall so it must be the sensor in the pump at the gas station but it happens at every gas station I fill up at. Gas overflows every time I fill up and goes all down the side of the jeep and on me.
