Wrangler Unlimited Sport 4x4 3.8L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 120,000 miles

I'm so disappointed in the 3.8L engine in my 2008 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited X. I serviced the Jeep regularly, always got the recommended maintenance, and babied it. Low and behold it starts making an awful engine noise less than 500 miles after I had it serviced. One of the rods is blown and the entire engine needs to be replaced to the tune of $6000-8000! Since it has 120,000, the shop recommended replacing additional components while the engine was out (hence the reason for the high cost). I'm still unsure of what to do, but I most likely will be sending her down the road. Why, Jeep, why?! Why replace an all-star engine that was in the TJ's with an engine built for a MINIVAN!

Wrangler Sahara Unlimited 3.8L

Apparently Jeep decided to change the engine that they had been using on the '08-'11 models. Lucky for me I have an '08 Wrangler and the engine died. I decided to have it replaced.

Wrangler Unlimited 3.8L

  • Manual transmission
  • 42,000 miles

Brought my 2008 Jeep 4 years ago. Truck had 22000 miles on it when I drove off lot. This year I was on highway and started hearing a noise. Took it to mechanic and was told that the engine had spun three bearings. Called Jeep to see what they could do since the truck was a 2008 and had 42000 miles on it. Was told that since the Warranty was out on the truck and it was used, they couldn't do anything for me.

After looking and researching this problem online, seems the engine in this Jeep has many problems dating back to 2007 from what I see. I think they should recall the Jeep with the Caravan engine they put in the Wrangler or help fix the ones that have been taken for a ride because of the bad engines that are happening.

The rebuilt engine cost me little over 4500 dollars had to replace the whole inside of engine from bottom up all damaged because of the bad engines they put in the new Jeeps. Sounds like a class action suit coming up if they don't help out with this one.

Wrangler UNLIMITEDDoors V6

  • Manual transmission
  • 100,000 miles

The Jeep started to consume a lot of oil and water. We thought it was a radiator issue and we bought a new fan and later a new radiator. Wife was monitoring oil and water on a day to day basis. Issue started 2 years ago and became worse a little bit at the time.

A couple of months ago, or local garage told us that the engine was dead and needed replacement. When we called the dealer (Walnut Creek) we were told that it would cost $150 for the dealer to look at the jeep and assess if it was under warranty. (We got a lifetime warranty when we bought the Jeep).

We are planning to fix it without the help of Chrysler since it is already abnormal to have to pay $150 just to have the dealer confirming (or not) the warranty.

We will not buy anymore a Chrysler automobile or related products.

Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited V6

  • Manual transmission
  • 51,000 miles

So, I bought a 2008 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon, back in February of 2015. This was a birthday present to myself. It had 49,000 miles on it. Luckily I purchased a 3 year 36,000 mile warranty, the best one offered. After picking up my Jeep from the mechanic for a rear seal leak (that I didn't know I had because the oil was draining into the transmission housing), I had to travel around 350 to visit my sick grandmother. Jeep was riding great and then it started vibrating horribly and sputtering. Had it brought back to my mechanic and was told that I spun 3 rods. Warranty was trying its best to pin the damage on me, but I shut that down. Didn't get a new engine, just a rebuilt one, but hoping that will be good enough.

Wrangler 3.8L V6 Smpi

  • Automatic transmission
  • 50,214 miles

This Jeep has never been off-road. The service records for oil and filter changes are per the manufactures recommendations and were done by a reputable business. The original warranty had expired, however we had a letter from Chrysler giving a lifetime power train warranty that began at the end of the basic limited warranty.

The basic limited warranty was 3 year/36000 miles. Buried within this new warranty is a statement that says every five years the Jeep must be inspected by an authorized Chrysler, Jeep, or Dodge dealer once every three years of the IN SERVICE date of the vehicle. My complaint is if the Lifetime warranty begins at the end of the Basic Limited Warranty then I am within the 5 year interval to have the Jeep inspected. Since my five year inspection period had not ended I had not had this inspection performed. When the Jeep engine locked up the dealership did the replacement cost.

I have done internet research and found that Jeep knew that they had gotten bad engine parts and this was what prompted the Lifetime Power Train Warranty that was given after I purchased the vehicle. This Jeep is hardly driven given that it is 5 years old and only has 51,000 miles on it. I don't care what car manufacture you are, to have an engine blow at 50,000 miles is totally UNACCEPTABLE! If this is the quality of your product then you would soon be out of business.

My dream has always been to own a Jeep Wrangler. This certainly has not lived up to my expectations. I will never again buy a Jeep and I'm making sure all my friends know the trouble I have had getting any help out of Jeep.

Jeep should have left the 3.8 in the soccer mom van and left the 4.0 to the jeepster. Biggest P.O.S. Next to buying a Yugo. Thanks Jeep. I won't buy another one.

Wrangler X 3.8L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 52,000 miles

What kind of engine blows at 52k miles. Warranty is only 36k miles. Does this mean they know this is a piece of crap? I am a rural carrier and Jeep makes the only right hand drives on the market. I had a Cherokee last time and it had a warranty of 75k miles. That is a big difference. I always keep up on oil changes and all repairs because this is my work vehicle. Extended warranty does not cover engines. So now I have years to pay on this and almost $5k I need to put in it now.
