Wrangler 6-cyl

  • 30,000 miles

When refueling, the vehicle ejects between 1 tblsp and 1 pint of fuel from the filler neck depending on the pump, outside temperature, and fuel level prior to filling. Fuel is ejected a distance of up to 6' (observed). Fuel is only spilled when the tank is filled and at termination of the procedure. Warm temperatures eject more fuel. This occurs 100% of the time and I need to warn attendants so they don't get fuel splashed on them. We are in Oregon where self-service is not allowed.

Had been smelling raw gas inside and outside vehicle for several months. Finally tracked down to fuel line coming from gas tank. Plastic elbow under driver seat (RHD postal Jeep) has pinhole and has been squirting a fine stream of fuel onto bottom of vehicle. If it had squirted on exhaust or any other hot surface, it would surely cause a fire. Wonder if any other elbows have failed on other vehicles, and also if there are any fuel line elbows in the engine compartment? could be explanation for engine fires that are being investigated. Local Jeep dealer had replaced fuel tank on 10-19-11 due to a recall about fuel spilling out of filler tube after fuel handle clicked off. Never noticed gas smell before the tank was replaced.

When filling up the gas tank, if allowed to fill completely it will puke gas back out after the automatic pump shut off. Enough gas to run down the side of the Jeep and on to the ground. Since the first time it happened it will do it every time if I do not stop it early.

Every time you fill up the tank with fuel it overfills. If you don't trickle the nozzle it backs up on you, spilling fuel outside the vehicle. As soon as the nozzle clicks off the fuel starts backing up.

Every time I fill up the gas tank, anywhere from a cup to a quart or more of fuel overflows and sprays out and down the side of my Jeep and onto the ground (or even on to me if I'm standing by it) after the pump stops. I bought the Jeep used, and it has done this at every fill up since I have owned the vehicle.

Wrangler 6-cyl

  • 36,900 miles
Gas overflows during refueling. No matter the setting on the pump nozzle, after the nozzle clicks off more than a pint of gas spills out onto the ground. I have owned the vehicle since June 2008 and the gas never overflowed before December 2011. Now it overflows at every refueling, at multiple gas stations. Gas spills at every refueling are a safety concern.

Fuel overflows when refueling. Overflow occurs even without filling the tank. Parking brake doesn't work unless you pull it up very hard and still doesn't keep it from rolling. Air conditioner doesn't cool. It has been in the service department several times for repair. Blows "smoke" from vents. A loud "knock" sound when you turn the A/C on/off or when you crank the vehicle and the A/C control is on. Soft top leaks over both doors when it rains. Service department has confirmed proper top installation. Sharp edges on the roll bars. Roll bar covers have ripped as a result of putting the top up or down. Dangerous "wobble" when you hit a small pothole, change uneven lanes, etc. Hood lifts approx. 2 inches when a large truck or trailer passes or meets the Jeep. Manual transmission "grinds or catches" when shifting into 2nd gear, worse when cold.

I just bought a 2008 used Jeep Wrangler unlimited X. the very first time I go to fill the gas tank, the auto shut off fails and gas starts spraying everywhere. I was covered in it from the waste down and standing in a puddle of it.

problem #42

Nov 172011

  • 32,000 miles
On multiple instances, while fueling the vehicle, the gas will not shut off, and the fuel will overflow out of the tank and spill on the ground and side of vehicle. This has happened at several different gas stations, and I have found that several others have had this same issue with their Jeep. Vehicle is just out of warranty, and I feel this unsafe condition should be a recall.
