Huge win for car owners! All TSBs to be made public. The Center for Auto Safety just made the NHTSA (US Government) make public the full text of all TSBs from now on. They are the same organization that has petitioned the NHTSA & filed lawsuits to protect car owners over exploding gas tanks & other major safety issues. Whenever you drive in your car, you are safer thanks in part to a lot of work over the years by this small but very effective consumer advocacy group.

Please take a moment & say thank you by donating $5 or whatever you can to the Center for Auto Safety.

2001 Kia Sportage Owner Comments

problem #4

Jul 162009

  • 192,000 miles

The contact owns a 2001 Kia Sportage. The vehicle has cooper trendsetter SE tires, size P 20575R15 (na). While driving 60 mph, the contact heard a loud sound inside of the vehicle. He pulled the vehicle over, but when he drove off for a few miles, he heard a slapping sound coming from the rear driver's side tire. The contact pulled into a parking lot and noticed major tread separation; however, there was still air inside of the tire. The failure cracked the rear bumper, the rear driver's side lens, and the bulb. He emailed the manufacturer, but has not received a response. The current and failure mileages were 192,000.

Vehicle idled at high RPM (SUV power surged to 80 mph, the slowest I could get the vehicle to go was 40mph and had to use the emergency brake. (throttle cable in wrong poss. At this time transmission is still slipping vehicle at dealership plus I am going through the lemon law and bbautoline. This is the 10 day limit. Kia has not been very hospitable about this situation, I do not feel safe in their vehicle.
