Huge win for car owners! All TSBs to be made public. The Center for Auto Safety just made the NHTSA (US Government) make public the full text of all TSBs from now on. They are the same organization that has petitioned the NHTSA & filed lawsuits to protect car owners over exploding gas tanks & other major safety issues. Whenever you drive in your car, you are safer thanks in part to a lot of work over the years by this small but very effective consumer advocacy group.

Please take a moment & say thank you by donating $5 or whatever you can to the Center for Auto Safety.

Like the myriad of other complaints about this vehicle, (townhall-talk.edmunds.com/webx?14@@.F142477/93#msg93, townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.eea90db, www.businessweek.com/the_thread/blogspotting/archives/2005/07/blogger_takes_O.html for a tiny example) I too began experiencing the exact same overheating problems not too far past the warranty expiration. It is very, very well documented that there is a complete failure in the cooling system in the Freelanders. Can you please, please, please do something about it? I have also had problems with the automatic windows, including one actually stuck partially down currently because I'm past warranty. But that's small potatoes compared to the overheating issue.

2004 Land Rover Freelander hse, engine problems at 50K miles- electrical problems, rear passenger window motor, very costly, bought the car in 2007 with 38K, hardly drive the car cause I travel for work and have rental cars, but when I do drive the Freelander- it causes me money, something will break even if I drive it for 5 miles...Land Rover should compensate Freelander owners because these cars shouldn't be sold to us when the car itself is unsafe and a lemon in the beginning...please- help!! incidental dates are too much to list!!

1) front right window regulator failed while under warranty. Service tech told me this was a recurrent problem. 2) currently rear right window regulator has failed. Window will not stay up. Unable to drive in rain and inclement weather. 3) first occurrence was under warranty and fixed by Land Rover. Second occurrence, 5,000 miles past warranty. Land Rover would not cover or negotiate on the bill. I will fix the 2nd occurrence myself.

In mid-October 2004, I bought a new Land Rover Freelander from the jim coleman of frederick, md dealership. The vehicle has had massive electrical issues. Since November of '04, the "hill descent" light (the lr manual suggests this means a major problem), SRS (airbag) and the check engine light come on several times. Car has left me stranded twice before 2 months old. When we went to get the car for pick up, the car was dead. Other recurring problems include: Not accelerating properly for highway entry/intersections/left turns. Sluggish, hesitant, lunging forward, very slow pick up. A nauseating burning smell continues to come through the vents into the car and surrounds the hood area when vehicle is running or shortly after turn off. Brakes are shuddering and brake pedal pushes back on my foot when stopping fast. I parked and turned off vehicle. Came back to vehicle an hour later with the ac fans blowing on high. Car was off. No key in ignition. Mechanic and I witnessed the rear gate window drop without the car being on and the key out of the ignition. This happens regularly. Air conditioner spits through vents. Water pouring out vents when going around curves. Significant amount of ac-related water on floor. A/C broke completely. No cold air, only fans. A/C light would not come on. Air would come out, only hot air. Fans stopped working. Front and rear windows completely fogged up on trip to Mississippi. Had to use towels to wipe windows down. Drastically cut visibility as windows fogged up. Forced to leave windows down in thunder storms. Drivers side wind shield wiper is dragging at the bottom creating a smeared effect.
