Left low beam headlight intermittently turn off. Need to turn off headlight for brief period causing a safety hazard in order for both headlights to turn back on. Seems to be known problem with this particular year/model.

The contact owns a 2007 Lexus GS350. During rainy weather or while the vehicle was at a car wash, water would leak into the headlight casing. The issue caused the fuses to fail. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the headlights were replaced; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The VIN was unknown. The approximate failure mileage was 45,000.

I also have a headlight that has intermittently not worked. I run my lights on the auto feature. In the last 6 months, I have noted that the left headlight only turns on some of the time. I need to check it, turn the lights off, then back on to get it to work. Happens about 20% of the time and is a safety issue. About 3 years ago, someone followed me into a store and told me that my left headlight was out. When I left and turned the car on, then checked the headlights, they were working. I now realize that this is when it started.

I have a problem with a head light going out intermittently, and occasionally both bulbs and what appears to be the back bulbs too go out leaving my car completely dark, interior lights are sometimes included. A quick off/on of the light switch and the lights are back to normal. I will intermittently turn my lights off then back on so I can control the darkness. I love my Lexus, but feel very unsafe in it, as the lights could go dark and I can't respond quick enough or oncoming traffic will not see me around a curve. I took the car in a couple of years ago to my Lexus dealer, tom williams, and they told me the car battery was weak and causing the problem, shortly thereafter I did replace the battery, but that did not solve the problem. When I bring it to Lexus, they only test it during the day. Still don't know what the problem is. I recently had the car in for the fuel system recall and they rechecked and said again they could not reproduce the problem, I felt like they were telling me I was lying. The most recent incident occurred with 102,000 miles on it, but it has been happening for several years since about 60,000 miles

Passenger side headlight intermittently stops working while in motion and/or stopped. Trusted repair shop said headlight ballast is bad and that the driver's side ballast is starting to make noise as if it is going bad as well. They have repaired many Lexus cars with this problem. This is a known issue on this year, make and model of the car. In some cases, drivers have had both headlights shut off at once. Lexus requires a complete headlight assembly to replace the bad ballast, a cost of over $2500 for both sides. Given that this is a known problem and potentially dangerous should both headlights shut off at the same time while driving at night, I was surprised to find that there has never been a recall for this problem.

Low beam xenon headlight on drivers side intermittently shuts off. At times both low beam headlights flicker and shut off completely causing no vision at night. When the lights are switched off then back on they work once again but usually for a few minutes only. Also, there's always a strong gasoline smell in the car, while sitting still. Once the car is in motion, the smell seems to go away.

I noticed the next day after I purchase the vehicle, that the right headlight was out but the rest were on. I called the dealer and told them about the problem and they told me to bring it in. The next day the lights were on so I didn't take it back. Since then, it happens every time I turn the lights on in the evening. I bought the car without an extended warranty, so I didn't take it back. Since then I have purchased an extended warranty through an outside company, but since I have seen this same problem on several cars similar to mine, I decided to report it before I decided to pay a deductible out of pocket. It's not just the right headlight, sometimes it's the right, sometimes it's both and the fog lights just stay on.

Both headlights went out while driving in the rain at night. I am told this is a very common problem, water gets into the sealed head lamp and shorts out the balist. I was almost hit as another car pulled out in front of me before I realized both head lights had shorted out. They turn back on once reset but go out with out warning.
