The contact owns a 2008 Lincoln Mkx. The contact stated she was locked in the vehicle for thirty-five minutes and discovered that the lift gate could not be opened from inside the vehicle. In addition, there was not a release to open the lift gate. The contact was able to exit the vehicle by using a bottle of cleaner to reach through the backseat and depressing the rear seat release to fold over the rear seat. The dealer was contacted and advised that they would have to demonstrate how to exit the vehicle when inside. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The failure and current mileages were 19,000. Lincoln Mkx 2008 with an automatic open/close feature for the rear lift gate, the lift gate has periodically reopened shortly after closure when using the button in the rear to close it. It has reopened twice while the vehicle was moving. The most recent event occurred while backing out of the garage and led to a smashed rear window and other damage to the rear of the vehicle leading to $2000 in repairs. The latch seems to be the problem. An earlier event occurred after a stop at a rest area. The lift gate opened as we were driving on the entrance ramp to the highway. The dealer has been requested to fix the problem and reimburse us for the repairs. The resolution from the dealer is pending.
