When applying the brake to slow down on an exit ramp, the car unexpectedly accelerated despite the brake pedal being pressed hard. The driver was able to avoid a collision with a stopped vehicle in front by shifting the gear into neutral. The engine revved up for a couple a seconds, but returned to a normal rate of revolution with the gear still in neutral and the car practically stopped.

Lincoln 2007 Town car why are these reports included in "interior systems"? they are clearly a safety issue that should be included under brakes and fuel system!! this model has the brake pedal and the fuel pedal connected together in a system that can raise or lower them together...it is probably this system that is at fault. In order to put in this feature it appears that they moved the gas pedal closer to the brake pedal and it is possible to apply both pedals together.

The consumers wife was approaching a traffic signal, when suddenly the engine revved extremely high as she was attempting to apply the brake to come to a normal stop. As the engine was out of control and the braking system was not sufficient to stop, she quickly placed the gear into neutral. After shifting to neutral, the brakes were sufficient with only a few inches to spare avoiding a serious collision. The vehicle continued running at a high rate during the wait. 2007 Lincoln Town car. Consumer states unintended acceleration. The consumer stated the incident happened when he attempted to ease the vehicle 30 feet from the driveway into the garage. When he put the gear into drive, the right rear tire screeched 5 feet which made it impossible to stop until the front of the vehicle was 6 feet into the utility room. The floor mat was fastened down and the vehicle doesn't have adjustable pedals. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, however they were unable to find a problem.
