CarComplaints.com Seal Of This Might Hurt

CarComplaints.com Notes: The only area of real concern for 2010 Mazda CX-9 owners is the brake booster.

In 2014, Mazda extended the warranty on the 2007-2013 CX-9 brake booster to 7 years / 90,000 miles. However this extended warranty has expired, so buyer beware.

This Mazda CX-9 brake booster failure isn't terrible in terms of repair cost — it "only" costs $550 average to fix. However it is a safety issue when the brake booster fails as it increases stopping distance. Owners have reported having to stomp on the brake pedal, & crashes/injuries have been reported due to this CX-9 brake booster defect.

2010 Model year CX9 at about 30,000 miles the feel of my brakes changed. They were very noisy, and I thought I needed maybe pads. I had never experienced this with brakes with any other car. Took it in, told pads only half worn, don't need pads. I was surprised. Felt like I needed more pressure to stop and they felt rough.

At 50,000 I had the pads done and the rotors were resurfaced. Noise stopped for a while. At about 75,000 miles I had an accident where under low speed, the traffic backed up quickly due to debris in the road, and I rear ended someone. It happened fast, but I felt like I had applied the pedal but car did not respond - but it was split second.

That was August 17, 2013, car was not returned to me until late September. It is now February 2015, 85,000 miles and car started making A LOT of noise when braking, awful. Noise did not stop, but diminished in volume when foot off brake. Dealer tells me I need whole brake job, pads and rotors AND CALIPERS. That the calipers are frozen and not operating, so the pad is constantly in contact with the rotor. I did the full 75,000 mile dealer service, which should have included brake fluid flush. $2100 repair.

I am not questioning the need for another set of pads or even the rotors, I know they can only be resurfaced 1x. I know the car is heavy, and I do not do highway driving. But now I am unsure if the car reacted correctly during that accident. And I am not sure if the calipers should be failing. I never experienced a hissing noise as other drivers have noted.

I drove my CX-9 with 31,000 miles to Mazda dealer complaint that when braking over 30 MPH I can feel a vibration in the brake pedal. A Mazda mechanic test drove and confirmed my complaint. The car was taken to a lift and inspected finding a rust lip on the front rotors and the pads were worn. Mechanic replaced the front brake pads and resurfaced the front rotors.

On 10/04/2014 I took my Mazda CX-9 with 49,000 miles and reported the same problem to a Mazda mechanic. After inspecting the same complaint I was told that my rotors and brakes needed to be replaced and it was normal tear and wear. I argued with the repairs Manager about replacing pads and rotors after 18,000 miles of driving and I was told that this is normal in this type of car. I contacted Mazda USA Headquarters customer support and I was told that they needed to check with the dealer since the tech inspected the problem. I got a call back from Headquarters customer support and got the same answer, this is due to wear and tear, nothing we can do for you.

The CX-9 is a nice car but mine has brake problems. By 38,000 miles I've gone through three sets of rotors. Two were replaced by Mazda after arguing that it was not normal wer and tear. Most of my driving is on the hwy and I drive pretty conservatively. The current rotors are warped. I'm going to try an after market set of performance rotors and pads. Also, at 1,000 miles the master cylinder went out and needed replaced.

Nice car but it sounds like they need to up grade the brakes.

Milage is just ok in the city. With a light load (one person) it does well on the hwy.
