In addition, the low tire pressure warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 104,000.

Valve stem sheared off of tire pressure sensor. I had the car serviced yesterday. During the oil change, the technician also inflated the tires to 32lbs each. Today the tire pressure monitoring system indicated a low tire. Passenger rear tire was 23.5 pounds. As I was putting air in the tire, the valve stem literally sheared off causing complete loss of air and a flat tire. I went to the dealer and the tire pressure sensor needed to be replaced. When I went to go remove the valve stem cap to check the air pressure, the valve stem broke off with the valve cap revealing the valve core. The tire was deflated within seconds. Further inspection of the valve stem showed that it was corroded. The valve stem broke off exactly at the point where the cap was screwed to. The dealership did not cover the cost for repairs as my car is not under warranty anymore. The cost for repairs came from my pocket.
