Huge win for car owners! All TSBs to be made public. The Center for Auto Safety just made the NHTSA (US Government) make public the full text of all TSBs from now on. They are the same organization that has petitioned the NHTSA & filed lawsuits to protect car owners over exploding gas tanks & other major safety issues. Whenever you drive in your car, you are safer thanks in part to a lot of work over the years by this small but very effective consumer advocacy group.

Please take a moment & say thank you by donating $5 or whatever you can to the Center for Auto Safety.

Protege 6-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 31,483 miles

I heard a strange sound every time I started to accelerate which I first thought to be the car in the next lane. I drove one more block and turned the corner, but the steering was locking and I had great difficulty turning. I had the car towed to my mechanic, combustion gases were in the cooling system and the engine had a cracked cylinder. The car is four years old (just out of warranty) with only 31,483 miles on it. I'm a good driver, 73 years old with a clean driving record and have never had problems with any car as a result of my driving habits. I've owned Mazda's since 1987 and loved them (even this car) but this will probably be my last. The repair required a rebuilt engine at a cost of $ 3,223.14..

Intermittently while driving 40 to 50 mph vehicle jerked. Vehicle would not stall, but would lose speed and power. Dealer examined the vehicle four times, and informed the consumer that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle.
