Huge win for car owners! All TSBs to be made public. The Center for Auto Safety just made the NHTSA (US Government) make public the full text of all TSBs from now on. They are the same organization that has petitioned the NHTSA & filed lawsuits to protect car owners over exploding gas tanks & other major safety issues. Whenever you drive in your car, you are safer thanks in part to a lot of work over the years by this small but very effective consumer advocacy group.

The contact owns a 2002 Mercury Cougar. The contact stated that she opened the sun roof and was unable to get the sun roof to close. The vehicle was taken to a personal mechanic for diagnosis and the sun roof was closed. The contact was told by the mechanic that the motor was fine but she needed to replace the switch. The switch was replaced and one week after having it repaired, the sun roof would not close. The dealer was notified but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 59,000 and the current mileage was 63,000. Updated 8/24/12

The contact owns a 2002 Mercury Cougar. The contact opened her sunroof and the lift on the passenger side did not open. The contact informed the dealer and they stated that she would have to have the liner and motor repaired. After researching the problem she has found several consumers that has experienced the same failure. The manufacturer was not contacted as of yet. The vehicle had not been repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 141000 and the approximate current mileage was 144500.

The contact owns a 2002 Mercury Cougar. The clip on the driver's side of the sun roof failed and prevents the sun roof from closing properly. The contact researched the issue and found that it was a very common failure. She called the dealer and was informed that the failure was common and she would be responsible for the repairs. The contact believes a recall should be issued. The current and failure mileages were 99,000.
