Huge win for car owners! All TSBs to be made public. The Center for Auto Safety just made the NHTSA (US Government) make public the full text of all TSBs from now on. They are the same organization that has petitioned the NHTSA & filed lawsuits to protect car owners over exploding gas tanks & other major safety issues. Whenever you drive in your car, you are safer thanks in part to a lot of work over the years by this small but very effective consumer advocacy group.

The contact owns a 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis. The contact stated that there was an extremely loud abnormal noise coming from the steering wheel. The contact stated that the noise was heard upon turning the steering wheel, which was loose. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for inspection and diagnostic testing. The vehicle was to be taken to a dealer for further diagnostic testing. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 15E082000 (steering). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.

The contact owns a 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis. While driving approximately 25 mph, the steering wheel intermittently seized. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the lower intermediate steering shaft would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact mentioned NHTSA campaign number: 14V704000 (steering) related to the 2005-2011 model year vehicles. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 72,000. Updated 09/25/15 the consumer fixed the vehicle at his expense. Updated 10/01/15
